Oh dear back to the drawing board minisprint comes out at 1117 are you sure they weigh 45kgs? & 7.5 sail that's like a laser

If you say 55 kgs hull weight and 7.0 sail you get 1139.

I'll polish the spreadsheet a bit back to where peaky had it before I started messing trying to compute the heeling moment. Oh and at the end of the day I guess it's a number reverse engineered from all those years of data, but a little before the system went mental.

The reason I think it's better, precisely because it is mechanical, nothing to stop anyone fiddling with it using returns methodology, but it could be an instant method for new builders to get an number issued using a universal number issued equally to everyone rather than the 'oh we got this data from Sailjuice, or from some bloke who sailed a lot on Burfield res and we think he's a bit handy.

I think Mr Fuller and I are in agreement that Peaky's numbers are a great way of calculating anexperimental number. Where I think he is wrong is in thinking that it is better than several years worth of results.

I would love to see the next FOM raced using Peaky numbers, hopefully not too messed around by Fuller!

When you do the Minisprint, could you bung in for the Minisail too, is, no seat? 4m long, 1.2m wide, 7.5m2 sail, say 45kg. Crew weight 75 kg with a wetsuit on!

Yes iGRF, sounds an interesting algorithm you have there. You got the H2 and its wood predecessor pretty much correct, I think. I would be interested in a copy of the spreadsheet too.

So where is this piece of witchcraft?

It was on here sometime pack, a formula Peaky dubbed the 'Fuller' number so it's a spreadsheet equation based on the hull length, sail size, sailor optimum weight, I can't remember all the bits of it I have them in a spreadsheet and I've messed about with it to try and get it to accommodate trapezes, spinnakers et al,but got bored, the single hander bit works surprisingly well (I must try it on a minisprint).

A few of us certainly Peaky and I thought the answer would be for an association of handicap racers be formed to sort it out finally, but to date we haven't really bothered because it looked like the RYA were going to get their act together with a new system anyway, but they didn't and to those who have been around forever what they have now allegedly is better than what went before. Personally seeing boats I race against with friends constantly changing is not only irritating but up setting for them as they don't really know the ins and outs of all this and you only have to read opinions here to see some folk think everything is fine, but then they witter on about class racing. Frankly anyone who has the benefit of class racing or feels it's a good thing or is particularly protective about it or their class, should be nowhere near a Handicap committee nor be in a position to comment on a thread about it imv.

On the subject of weight, how have we managed 14 pages of waffle without anyone demanding to know the weight of the Hadron?

Are there class rules in place with a min weight?
Or is it like other SMODs where you take what you're given?

because it's friday.... If the Hadron were represented by a specific shape of female derriere... which would it be?
