If its not now I'm sure it will be after the RS boys have sliced it apart to see exactly what went wrong! |

Saw a similar failure just off Hayling in the summer. Not close enough to see any detail but the mast was at a very sick angle and I can't think of anything else it could be. Let's hope RS don't have a QC problem and they can sort these issues out.

Thats a pain. He/She should (undoubtedly will) call them first thing and I am sure they will be on it quickly. Not sure how they are constructed, but sounds like the bonding of the pot to the hull failed.
Some of our guys are pretty big and give the boats a real hammering in our rough sea conditions (like today) and almost to our surprise they have proved remarkable tough so far, some of the most trouble free new boats we have had in recent years in reality. |

Spectacular failure on an Aero at my club today. At first glance it looks as if the mast pot let go at the bottom. The end of the mast crunched the topside on one side significantly so its a very sick boat. I imagine RS will want to conduct a very detailed post mortem to see what went wrong. It was windy and very gusty but also it was a very early boat, so very much doubt it represents a design fault.

More common is (or used to be, anyway) to simply see the number of the boat a sail was bought second hand from, maybe with a number peeled off if the original owner is out sailing too.

I was really just referring to the car plates. I guess aesthetics comes into it for sail numbers - you do tend to see them a lot while sailing.
