Not just Byte......I am always careful not to criticise sailfest. A great idea that went off course. I have no idea how to get it back to where it should have been so I say nothing but I really wish it could work.

I'd say combine with NWF, but if doubt they'd want our dinghy bullsh*t... Besides sailing festivals already exist... Fed week, Burnham Week, Lord Birkett, abersoch etc

We need a new more all inclusive approach to 'us' lot's of 'us' cross over into all sorts of water sports, yet we let ourselves be categorised by whichever governing body or interest group is benefiting by organising our alleged enjoyment.
So, ask yourselves ourselves, what would tweak our interest. Would a multi discipline bash do it? We had plans for a downwinder cross bay classic thing, set the time, everyone enters, weather decides on the day who wins, kite v board v boat, v foils of all flavours, with a ride back to where you started on the mini light railway train with refreshment. Never went ahead because of the uncertainty of numbers. But it would have been good craic with a rear up afterwards. Then again wold it have been to everyones taste? Probably not, even with the addition of spreadsheet calc.

Back to Bewl. Greg Clark the local MP thinks he's fixed it. I suspect not. I think he's fixed it for the developer who will be able to sell sailing at a very high price to casual visitors. It'll have to be a high price to cover the cost of facilities and safety cover. The great thing about clubs is they provide much of this for very low cost by volunteers. The down side of clubs is the vast amount of valuable land they occupy by old boats with nettles growing up through the centreboard slot. We shall see.
Ultimately there are more things for people to do on a weekend these days and so less demand for dinghy sailing. There will have to be less clubs. Only the best will survive.

Oh dear!
So you can be the national champion in whatever class you choose with 95% of your life spent sailing, and because like most of us you haven't joined the RYA certification train, you dont have RYA L2 then sorry you cant sail. Its a dangerous precident! I suppose anyone who is evenly vaguely competitive will have moved to Bough Beech by now. |

That's OK, Bewl will turn into a sailing centre much like has been described on here in the past, where well off people can pay for other people to organise things for them so everything is ready to use when they get a day out from the office. Different to a club, but hopefully it will keep some DIs in work.

Blimey that's a lot of money to cruise on a lake (there is no mention of arranging racing), I can't see any racers staying.

We have had the pleasure of some Bewl peeps join us at Weir Wood, and very welcome they are too.
I think it may have dawned on the Bewl lease holders that there is a bit of a hole in their finances now. Anyhow, it will all pan out one way or another, much the way Rupert describes I should imagine.
