We are a family of 2 adults and one child (currently 6 yrs old - no more kids planned) looking to purchase a dinghy for recreational use. I have some sailing experience having grown up on the Norfolk coast and owning a couple of dinghies when I was younger, but the rest of the family will be new to sailing.

Looking for something that will accommodate all of us but not so big that I couldn't manage it on my own - Ideally smaller than a Wayfarer. Preferably GRP as we have limited space at home so will largely live at the local SC. Additionally, it will probably see a fair bit of beach use.

My budget is around £1000, so maybe thinking of something along the lines of a GP14??

The old GP14 is maybe a bit of a lump on the beach, very much so singlehanded. The Wanderer is really to all intents and purposes a baby Wayfarer, but still a bit substantial to sail - or more to the point move on the beach - singlehanded.

Although its not the most favoured of boats round here the Topper Magno is the right sort of size I should think, mind you it also depends a bit on how big you two adults are...

In yea olden days, the Mirror dinghy would have been the 1st port of call. We have used one all through the kids growing up, and it has proved excellent. But then we are smallish.

Thanks for the replies..
I was looking at the Magno earlier - Looks like a fun boat at a good price. May well investigate them a bit further.
Mirror - have sailed them quite a bit as a youngster. The boy isn't going to get any smaller and the cockpit is likely to be a bit cramped before long.
Miracle - A good size and has the little seat up front, but nearly all woodies and GRP ones are surprisingly expensive.

The Miracle is probably a pretty good call if you aren't too big.

They are wood hulled unless I'm mistaken? Do seem to be well priced though.

ah didnt spot that you were after grp - there arent a lot of plastic miracles about. there was a composite one for sale recently, but seems to have fallen off the classifieds so i guess its sold.

the problem with gp14s and wayfarers is the weight of them once out of the water, whereas things like miracles and enterprises are relatively light
