Only just seen this.Think your a little confused from lack of food, James. Stay away from the pies and enjoy your snowboarding.

snowboarding was great... don't tell anyone, but I took two decks, but I used the same bindings.  Switched them over when the snow conditions changed.  I guess that's a bad thing according to some on here.

Anyway, Aero news.... thanks RB, great feedback and I think Simon's about right with the longer-term handicap prediction imho.

They are quick in the right sort of areas, but I still believe they will end up around 1035/1040. A well sailed blaze is still faster on a tight reach or upwind in a blow and that's at 1021.

I reckon in some conditions it's going to sail to 1015 and lower, judging by how it performs alongside my 300.  Close-reaching and fully powered up the 3 (2nd and 3rd at the Nats) 300s put distance on it - but as soon as we cracked off slightly on the next leg it was getting ominously bigger.  We did the distance upwind but again it held us on the run.

Had my first go on an Aero 9 yesterday. Really surprised how fast it goes given the lack of length and power, especially reaching and downwind. Sailed off 1015 and rather embarassingly won a club race in its first outing against some good club sailors. Suggests the PY is much closer to the Phantom then I would have expected.

Only downside for me is that it really is a small boat and unless hiked out, at 6'6", I'm very curled up in the cockpit. Was struggling a bit with leech tension, but that might simply be the fat head style of mainsail that I'm still not used to.

Anyway great boat, but difficult to ignore how much more spacious the Phantom is for people of my size.

finally got out for the first time at my home club.wind quite nice, gusty as usual but not above 22knts. no capsizes, and was keeping up with a well sailed full rig laser for most of the time. if i hadnt had to do turns i think i might have got hopim. love my boat! feel v comfortable in it now, everything so easy to reach.

You can have 1040 on a unofficial spreadsheet I'd run, same as the D-Zero and the Rooster 8.1.  Please come along and join Draycote if you're nearby, you'll be put in the 'Medium Handicap Fleet' and there's a nice fella probably sailing his Blaze a bit quicker than us, we'll use him as the pacemaker and race scratch.

Bottle of Vintage Dom Perignon for the person who wins the Wednesday Night (combined) Series on an 'across the line basis' - 4 discards between Apr and Sept to encourage participation but allow for regular private sector holiday entitlement.

Anyone up for it?  (probably not, ... but hey, it would be great to have some Aeros to race against regardless)

* oh, before you ask about which rig?, the answer is 'does it look like I give a damn?'

+1 for that.
