well the 600 is better than all of your boats!

even if it is still in pieces on the drive and i am unable to sail it competitively in anything over about 20 knots (although i am yet to try to reef it).

600 732, will call it Sticks and Stones when i get round to it.
Also International 14, 1318

I apologise if I have insulted you on personal level, but I still think lasers are rubbish.

^ Seconded

And there are probably thousands ( Many of them laser sailors ) who agree, but still sail in the class ( for the racing - and thats it! )  who dont actually enjoy just sailing the boats.

Thats becasue they're horrid boats. I could design a better boat blindfolded.

Ross have you ever done any boat design? As part of my degree is basic ship stablity. I struggle with that if I have both hands, eyes and a fairly powerfull desk top good luck blind folded!

I agree I don't realy like lasers much but you can't find too many problems with the hull design and then suggest that you prefer contenders as they are very similar in shape the contenders just a wee bit longer.

As for a compitive contender for 500 pounds please show me, I'm a little peeved because mine which is worth about 1600 struggled to get me out of the middle of the fleet at open, althought that may be something to do with the driver .

As always sorry about the spelling/grammer.

I did have some pictures of my Contender, but I reformatted my hardrive in a fit of "I hate windows" anger and no longer have them. They might be on my mum's external hard drive, which isn't at home at the moment.

Seconded  I wouldn't bother with the reef if you sail on a lake unless your fairly light. You need the power in the lulls and when it drops off. Plus the cunno, kicker and outhall depower the sail quite nicely in my opinion. On the other hand it could be good to reef whilst you get used to the boat. Then again i'm sure the boat handels very differently with the reef in?  Anyone had any experiance with and without the reef?

smight, i don't sail on a puddle, and 20 knots on the sea with these strange moving lumps of water gives you plenty to think about, trust me you want the reef in. i will tell you how it feels when reefed when i try it out.

Ross stop the class bashing. Yes i sail Cherubs and theres many reasons why, what yourself and possiblya few others dont realise is yes:
1) I used to sail laser radials (with in my opinion very good national series results)
2) Although at club level (small un competitive fleets) sailing a laser may seem boring, try racing one in a fleet of over 100 boats at a nationals or qualifier event, where you get 4 or 5 rows of boats fighting for a good start and seriously close and tactical racing in often challenging conditions (memories of strong winds and huge waves outside the plymouth sound or strong tides at felixtowe)
3) I actually keep toying with the idea of buying another radial for racing in the qualifier series as i enjoyed the standard of racing so much.

I recomend that before you try a class you bash it, sail a season in a radial (your definatly not heavy enough to be quick in a full rig), sail the qualifier series and the nationals and see how you rank. Then  give your opinions of the class
