#thisgirlcan't

... because someone used the term 'norks' on an internet forum.  Never mind the fact that it was encased in prose heavily laden with irony.

At the end of the day, Russo was not obliged to be paid multi-millions of dollars for her acting talent, nor take up this strong female lead role - if you've seen the film, a woman utterly comfortable with her own sexuality despite working in a heavily masculine dominated environment.

Nor is her body type one that I would personally put into the 'exploitative camp' when compared to silicon enhanced Barbie girls out there.... but hey, I'm the sexist, just like the rest of the blokes at the sailing club who are waiting to get a cheap thrill out of every bit of skirt they see in a wetsuit...

To address the forum sexism balance here's a film that celebrates young, fit and stripped to the waist male sailors.... I'm sure it will tickle someones fancy on here, GRF?  Wink

It's not quite as simple as that James, nor is it all about you.
the same, but different...

Lightening the mood,

White Squall was a terrible film which bore little resemblance to the events of 1961.

Rupert is right about fordecks on the 14's in 'Wind', but apparently that bit was shot in Perth so probably Aussie 14's which did have fordecks for whatever reason?

The boats in Charlie St Cloud had a constant identity crisis veering from 420 to laser 2 and back again.
the same, but different...

Was it actually set in Perth, too? I'm sure we have the film somewhere, mind, so I could always just watch it.

But it really is that simple... Shall I post a picture of Pierce Brosnan's butt from the same movie? Prudishness and Political Correctness haven't delivered equality- choice and independence are the way forward.

But glad it's institutional sexism, not something on me personally... I can sleep easier tonight knowing there's f**k all that can be done about it

I think we'd better drop the sexism tangent (because conversations like this on forums do not solve matters, they merely drag them on and on in circles) and let's go back to the original topic of movies.

It is absurd to think that a continuity expert on a big budget film was unable to tell the difference between two white plastic dinghies. The 420 has some quite obvious inside curves that a Laser II lacks! And no rear deck. You'd think they'd hire a sailing consultant even if they didn't want to get things perfect for a sailing-mad audience.

When you see all the detail that goes into making props and costumes that appear in the corner of the screen for half a second, it makes the continuity errors all the more disgraceful. But it does give movie forums more to talk about! And lots of people now enjoy seeing that stormtrooper hit his head in Star Wars.

As for the winch with no rope on it, I now feel a right twit for not spotting it myself. Though I did spot an error in E.T. over Christmas (through my tears).

Are you suggesting I buy a Farr 3.7 and move to Hunts?
