Matt you chimed in with a snidey comment on the ,laser thread... You started a personal attack, then hid behind your beret by saying 'if the cap fits'. We're not idiots - please don't treat us like we are.
Here's a thought, rather than bitch about contribution on threads you claim to have no interest in (or commercial agenda) why not start something creative and positive on a new one... when did you last start a thread by the way? genuine question? Edited by kneewrecker - 04 Dec 14 at 12:14am |

Edit. What's the point! Wouldn't want to upset someone who contributes so much!

Is there a sin bin where bickering people can be sent to for a while to cool off? Come on guys this has gotten too personal and needs to stop, its ruining a damn good forum. It isn't constructive in any way. I'm sorry that I have said this but even for me this is going far now.

Hmm, I would have to challenge that statement! If I can be accused of that on any boat its probably the Supernova, which I have sailed for the last few years, or the D-one. I have in the past stuck up for the Blaze, the Dzero and the aero. Where I do make points is where there is speculative assumption rather than anything based on personal experience or fact. Yes I will be sailing an aero next season, but thats just as much based on 13 other people at my club doing the same. Do I think it is a decent boat? Yes I do, but if we had 14 supernovas then I would be in one. That said, the Dzero and the RSaero have both moved the game on for light simple single handers. They will both have positives and negatives like the other boats mentioned in these posts and I would stick up for any of them if I thought, based my experience, the comments were unfair.

A few thoughts.
1. You know what its like when someone takes a pic of you sailing just as you reach in to fiddle, the boat heels, then they accuse you later of never sailing flat? THE CAMERA SOMETIMES LIES. 2. If someone is new to a boat they never get the most out of it in the first few months of sailing. We are ALL new to the Zero and Aero, the learning curve is steep all round. The best is some way off once we know the nuances. 3. Coe vs Ovett, Ainslie vs Scheidt, Borg vs McEnroe. The rivalry made them perform to their best rather than be complacent slow burners. 4. Making an assertion or assumption based on what something or someone 'looks like' in a video shot on a moving surface in an unpredicatble environment (wind) will only ever be dodgy and unverifiable. |

I think Russ's point is that when you guys have disagreed, it has been handled in a respectable manner- and discussions have been centred on the difference of opinion on the boats, the sailing characteristics, and more often than not, the mixed messages of the RS Aero marketing output.
They have, to my knowledge at least, never been personal digs about each other, nor just the petty snide comments from the sidelines which add nothing to the debate, or indeed the forum as a whole. There are a few posters who don't start threads, rarely contribute to them but just seem to nit-pick because they don't like someone's posting style, or don't like the popular threads around handicap racing or new dinghies on the market; but then they lack the imagination to come up with anything more interesting. Our sh*t's free to read as much as it's free to ignore. Criticising it, to me, just sends the message that those people perversely seem to enjoy, or at least get something from reading it. I think it's great that you're prepared to front up a user experience of the Aero on here. I wish more Aero sailors would do the same. Half the 'issues' with it are to do with misunderstanding and poor communication. Something I think that would easily remedied by more end-customer feedback in the public domain. It would also help to build peer-to-peer relations.... I can't for one minute be the only person who thinks, I'd be bold enough to say, 'knows', that we could have one hell of a sailing party if we pooled resources and binned off the PY system for a nice autumn weekend.

Part of the problem is also that we are relying on video, photos and marketing to make our judgements. We have seen the boat sailed by experts, like Tracey and Pete, so it looks good, we haven't seen it in the hands of the average club sailor, like poor Koops' capsize in the zero, so we dont know the reality. The Sailjuice series would be an excellent chance to get both boats out and sailing against each other and their other rivals, why isn't someone doing this? I am going to pretty much all the events from now on, including the Brass Monkey and the Grafham Grand Prix, I would be happy to stick an aero or a zero on top of my double stacker and find someone to race it. Then at least we would have some basic information on which to base judgements.
