From the side the hull looks a bit like an Ok - and that looks great with a low boom

Cheaply, you mean? We manage foam in a rounded hull on the 3k - just needs a bit of effort and heat.

I'm not saying that there's a problem hydrodynamically either, just talking aesthetics, esp. as regards non-sailors/beginners.

A cocked up boom looks awful too to my eyes. A droopy boom looks like you know what you're doing with the kicker!  Again, aerodynamically a cocked up boom is not a problem but the gooseneck needs to be much lower to be any improvement on the Laser.

The boom being designed not to bang beginners' heads seems like a reasonable thing to do? Wouldn't surprise me at all that as the class becomes more racy, people discover it goes better with shed loads of kicker on. At that point, the boom might still be at a height you don't have to limbo to get under it.

But boxy allows you to build from sheets of foam sandwich that you couldn't do with a rounded hull. Lighter and stiffer. Also if you use cats as an example they are all boxier now, the round ones like the original mondeo have gone
Everything I say is my opinion, honest

Aero - Angle the boom down towards the rear deck and it would look 100 x better.

That boom height and high clew just looks like a compromise towards beginners not banging their heads ?

I suspect a non-sailor, at least, would find the Laser 4.7 more attractive to look at. The Aero is a bit boxy; at least the old plywood boats had an excuse...

On a serious note- the Aero 5 article on the FP is a good read.

Personally I think the boat looks really good with the 5 sail on it, and an active youth focused programme which encourages everyone to take part, rather than discard and cast off through false promises and broken dreams down that bullsh*t talent pathway ain't no bad thing....

Nice videos from that day too.
