given this figure was pretty limited anyway, it's hard to see much negative impact....

Well, you do have a point but in principle......

It's unfortunate that Er Indoors didnt like it, otherwise I would have bought it, without doubt.  I dont rule it out as a future purchase when she has more experience.

I did wonder if grumpf was going to be giving it a try.

It was a lot of fun last weekend, I had 2 different crews. 1 weighing 18 stone and the other more like 8 stone.

The boat was perfectly well behaved with both in. Hopefully grumpf will give us some feedback (and hopefully not 'it needs a kite'. I don't think it does, the simplicity and the speed it generates definitely raised a few eyebrows).

It needs a kite. At least it needs a kite 'option'.

However I'm prepared to be open minded and will attempt to take on the Merlin with it's handicap of 990 with us sailing off 969 without a kite and fully expect to be resoundingly trashed, you can rest assured I'll be once more singing handicap committees praise and fully respecting their professional decision making process.

Yes, and after you've 'proved' it only sails to 1060, let Dumberer sail it and show it should really be on 950...

GRF it takes skill, practice and experise to sail off 969, which of course I managed to do a few times Wink .... you however may well struggle. Don't always blame the boat, PY or RYA but look closer to home if don't immediately sail to the PY. Practice makes perfect ... too which you'll undoubtedly answer "I am perfect and therfore I need no practice" ..... but therein lies the flaw  LOL

So it's your fault it's got 969 Scotsfin, is that what you're saying?

And don't they all tell me it's the sailors not the boat which creates the handicap?

Sounds like you need more like me sailing it.

They might sell another one.

I never actually sailed it against our resident Merlin (his crew has just had a baby) but I did manage to keep up with Fireballs and Phantoms quite easily so whilst 969 might be a tad on the quick side I would not expect it to get much slower once results start churning through.

One thing I did really like was sheeting off the boom. Felt a bit strange at first but definitely more feel than going through the block on the floor.

Oh and do tell the crew to make sure they get the toe straps each time, my crew fell out the other Sunday having missed the straps.

Oh no! An excuse to chuck himself out. he'll get right on that, they might as well fit a diving board, nothing he likes more than a trip into the sail even when I tell him not to. If it's not that it's pinochio-ing down the side for a little swing round the shrouds and back at least he won't be able to do that to alleviate the boredom.

Any other useful crew deviations I should be aware of, where can he put his coffee, cake and newspaper?

Nowhere, cleating the jib is also awkward so he will have to hang on to the jib sheets, not a bad thing, at least he will still be attached to the boat.
