If one lives ones life looking for and analyzing other peoples faults it will leave little time for enjoying their good qualities. I like people, they are always interesting. Some people where dropped on their head as children and have peculiar personalities but most people pass through life searching for happiness. They do not have it in for you Young Fuller.

Well let's just say this, other than the One day round island events locally I've only ever entered three dinghy events, two 'nationals' the first an Iso event years ago where some arrogant knob end in a dinghy insisted we wear buoyancy on a sea flat calm roasting hot day instead of it being hoisted in the rigging close at hand, the RS100 debacle and the Forum Open meeting at which you couldn't find a nicer bunch of folk, so yes attitudes do reflect. (I was even nice to that nasty shouty Phantom man who God punished later by freezing him to his tent.)
So how are the RS100 Nationals numbers, increasing are they? And this is no reflection on RS staff, I've always found them to be helpful cheery and good craic, so maybe it's just their surly customer base.. (And before you start, note how many new RS Boats I've had) ![]() Edited by iGRF - 15 Jul 14 at 9:50am |

Perhaps it did Rupert but not to the extent it is often reported. Myself and some of my children have had a very jolly Friday night at Southport 24, but just once a year. I have experienced one competitor at a Nationals who drank an astonishing amount and raced the following day with no significant after effect, but another friend throwing up over the transom before race one did not seem that attractive.
Believe me, I am not a miserable old sod, just realistic.

My experience is similar ... I find people are a reflection of your own attitude ... if you are pleasant to others then typically they return the sentiment ... Perhaps if you don't like other peoples attitudes you should first look at your own ... |

I just have a great time being connected with the sport of sailing. No one has ever been unkind to me, offended me or ignored me.
I realise that Mr Fuller is often tongue-in-cheek but really, his recent entertaining comments are not very entertaining so please give it a rest. Regarding all this jolly ho,ho, boozing most of it never happened, just inaccurate memories of not very mis-spent youth.

Thread started Can we divert grumph from PYS paranoid ranting and moaning about his RS100 Nationals agonies, where allegedly he was beaten mostly by shipped in jockeys. Although, strangely, at least 6 of the top 8, inc the first 5 in 2010 still race their 100s. |

Last Nationals I went to (and organized) had Pimms by the bucket load, and while there were 4 races, it was only 2 to count, and if you got lapped, you got finished next time through.
The answer to the specific problem of being timed out is not to DNF, but to go back down through the fleet giving finishing positions where you are at the stated time. As for hotshots - chance would be a fine thing in the Minisail - when I'm the hotshot, you know there are no pro jockeys involved. You should try one, Grumph, it is what the windsurfer developed from! You never know, you might find you even like the 50's technology unbattened sail - after all, you got a soft sail made for the eps? Most are even made from GRP, you can run them up the beach - what the hell, the hulls are so cheap you could trash one every week and it would cost you far less than the depreciation on a new boat. They are very slow upwind, though. But a hoot on a planing reach. |
