Leads on to a great new thread.  What the hell happened to the good old sailing club piss-up/party.

They are not like they used to be! Diluted versions of their former selves.

Drink-drive laws, and the current public view that drink-driving is second only to paedophilia, with speeding and, heaven forbid, overtaking a close third.

Alternatively, the ageing demographic.  Have they finally learned that hangovers are not nice?

Nothing at all like what I'm used to, ok so our sailboard events might have been a bit wild, but even the Merlin Boys manage to still break the bar record down at Salcombe now and again, maybe explains why their numbers are steady. No social activities = no rear end of the fleet fun brigade.

Who wants to hang out with emaciated 1000 yard starers before they pop off to bed at 9.30...

Last Nationals I went to (and organized) had Pimms by the bucket load, and while there were 4 races, it was only 2 to count, and if you got lapped, you got finished next time through.

The answer to the specific problem of being timed out is not to DNF, but to go back down through the fleet giving finishing positions where you are at the stated time.

As for hotshots - chance would be a fine thing in the Minisail - when I'm the hotshot, you know there are no pro jockeys involved. You should try one, Grumph, it is what the windsurfer developed from! You never know, you might find you even like the 50's technology unbattened sail - after all, you got a soft sail made for the eps? Most are even made from GRP, you can run them up the beach - what the hell, the hulls are so cheap you could trash one every week and it would cost you far less than the depreciation on a new boat.

They are very slow upwind, though. But a hoot on a planing reach.

Thread started

Can we divert grumph from PYS paranoid ranting  and moaning about his RS100 Nationals agonies, where allegedly he was beaten mostly by shipped in jockeys. Although, strangely, at least 6 of the top 8, inc the first 5 in 2010 still race their 100s.

I just have a great time being connected with the sport of sailing. No one has ever been unkind to me,  offended me or ignored me.

I realise that Mr Fuller is often tongue-in-cheek but really, his recent entertaining comments are not very entertaining so please give it a rest.

Regarding all this jolly ho,ho, boozing most of it never happened, just inaccurate memories of not very mis-spent youth.

It all sounded pretty accurate to me!

My experience is similar ... I find people are a reflection of your own attitude ... if you are pleasant to others then typically they return the sentiment ...

Perhaps if you don't like other peoples attitudes you should first look at your own ...
