I might wait till Christmas, then buy Kneewellies boat, then remove the leopard print wrap, sodastream & xbox and I'll be set for next year!

I agree, both appeal to early adopters who aren't prepared to settle for Solos - not yet anyway. My personal expectations from the D-Zero are significantly less than they were for my RS100- a nice beach boat for non-windsurfing lightwinds and light hearted racing as opposed to the 'MPS for.muppets' that was never really delivered.
Expectations mature- as do markets, and it's notably obvious the lack of 'hype'around the D-Zero- it's refreshingly basic and does not require it. The aero is a little more hyped, but nothing too butt-twitching... I was going to buy one until i found out about Zero, even without the pinch of salt needed for planing upwind in Dublin Bay. It's probably filling thr same personal objective - but i like the look of the D-Zero more. As for falling numbers- almost inevitable when the class got too serious about the rig sizes and split the fleet. If i wanted a kite boat now, thr D-One is clearly the better choice today for fleet racing, general 'buzz' and arguably performance and cost of ownership. While I'm sure there will be some ex RS100 owners among the D0 ownership, I don't think it's neccessary to see this as one thing versus another. Perhaps, in the long, long, long run, there will be a definitive trend of owners moving from one class to another. The D0 is a nice looking boat which no one has so far sailed in production form in anger. Ditto the RS Aero. The D1, RS100 et al proceeding them are out there and available already. You pays your money and takes your choice, many choose to sail L*sers and Soslows, not my choice but there you go, they obviously like 'em. Decline in RS100 nationals attendance is probably as much down to factors like time & money as "popularity"....as for my non-attendance, I can't get to enough 100 events this year to justify spending the cash to join the RS association and enter the nationals, take the holiday (other pressures too) and do the travelling. As for the comment "kites need traps or wings" ... errr based on what exactly? odd comment IMO. |

After every bodies comments who is coming to Lee on Solent to have a go.
I will be driving the rib and at some point will be aloud a play. We are hoping to lay on Bacon butties for those waiting and run a rib shuttle into the shore to collect people which will save you having to launch for the first sail. Hope to see you all on Sunday where we will be able to show you the fantastic new club house and changing rooms planned for the club ffor 2017. |
