Rupert, you've really described the Farr 3.7. OK its usually a one piece mast, but not that long... |

In some ways I have, I suppose, though not quite what I was picturing in my head...
I suppose the problem is that a narrow boat heeds a sitting out aid, and the simplest and lightest of them is a trapeze. Wings, sliding seats are added complication, weight and have to be transported somehow. But, a trapeze involves having a rig with shrouds (the Delta having shown just how big an unstayed mast has to be) which adds its own complications. Maybe the Minisail needs to be re-drawn to reflect building it half the weight it is currently, and have a better rig put on. Scow bowed boats seem to cope with being narrow better than traditional pointy bowed dinghies. Mind it would have to be strong enough to run onto the beach - can a 4 metre 25kg hull cope with that when built out of fairly inexpensive materials? |

What about the Catapult as a packable sailing boat? Any other suggestions for a two person packable? After last year's holiday torture of looking at loads of beautiful Swedish, German and Dutch lakes and not having a boat to sail, I'm considering looking for something that would pack into the van or on a roofrack to avoid the high costs on ferries and bridges. For example The Bridge (as on TV http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C3%98resund_Bridge ) jumps from 46 euro to 92 euro with a trailer so the savings can be considerable. Ok, so what happens when you re-gain your sailing mojo but in the process lose your mojo for work? Hypothetically speaking, of course, what would you do then?

work out how you are going to pay for your sailing addiction without work.... then realise that the concept of a career (work mojo) sucks, and that the slow drift into averageness enables you to put play first, work second without sacrificing enough readies to make it all possible.

Looks like a boat with a cover on, on a trailer? Blowing dogs off chains right now, sure (we all) hope a sail is in the offing sooner rather than later.

Find what you love to do, and make it your job, even if it takes a lifetime to find. Being able to afford whatever boat you want is poor compensation for doing a job you hate!
