Cinzano and lemonade I seem to recall was the drink the Breadknife Mk1 used to demand. Or port and lemon, Gin and Tonic was reserved for the older generation, who also used to serve Sherry when you visited, even in the morning.

Baileys was invented by Irish milk producers to get rid of a surplus of cream in those far off times - 1971!

I don't think  Baileys was invented when I was young. I am trying to remember what we used for seduction (attempted) purposes. Pubs never sold wine........Vodka, that was it! Vodka and lime, vodka and orange, that sort of thing. I just spoke with my wife of 40 odd years and she says I bought her halves of bitter.....how romantic is that? Not very, and she has complained ever since. as to how we operated our seduction technique? A bit of mane shaking bell bottom swishing and talking about Jean Paul Sarte or Lawrence Durrel did the trick. Flaubert made me sound sympathetic to the women's cause. Did this work? Sort of but I was all fart and no substance so it had to work quickly before I was found out.

Ah, how sweet the naivety of the young is:-)

I'm now scared, I can cope with losing most of my faculties when I reach a certain age, but losing my sense of irony too.... no, no, no... that's too much.

Anyone got a phone number for Dignitas?   Wink

(btw- much as I criticise a good ol' knee wrecker, build quality isn't one of them.  In fact generally speaking, it's annoyingly good, which is one of the reasons why they remain so good, and competitive, for so long at club level.)

Mr Tickle... back in the day young gentlemen would flirt with flowers, alcohol and some cheeky banter to make up for their physical short comings and mildly inebriated appearance.  Even the swamp donkeys were treated to a Baileys at 1.30 in the morning.   They'd probably call it predatory behaviour these days.  As The Saturdays say, a gentleman is so 1999...

I guess it's much easier these days, simply snapchat your left testicle in most instances, or if you're feeling adventurous and amorous a bit of grinding and twerking is the best way to initiate courtship... or so I heard.

Ah, how sweet the naivety of the young is:-) One of the things that made success of the Laser was that the build quality was so much better than some of the unbelievably awful rubbish that was out in the market back then. So trust me, far far worse build quality than the Laser is more than possible and even was good enough to sell boats back in the day...

Wasn't there a batch (60 or 70'000 sail numbers I think) that they made using water soluble glue which resulted them falling apart when they got wet?

(Although to be fair I agree with Jim - having sailed lasers for many years the build quality has been a lot better than many other boats).

What could possibly go wrong?

Looking round at the sad remains of Christmas whilst drinking my mongoose excrement coffee I spy the remains of a bottle of Baileys. It tastes alright, a bit like kaolin and morphine that we used to drink to settle our over active bowels. I bet that is not posh though. I can imagine gobbling a bottle of that down before a night out.

Best tipple is the wine brought back from France - NOT posh holiday thanks to free crossing on Tesco's Clubcard Rewards!
Cote de Roussillon (not considered posh as it's a country wine from the bit near Spain) that costs about nine quid a bottle in supermarket here was about nine quid a box there Thumbs Up
