What have I sparked now? All you 'posh' gents with a conscience trying to get down with the poor. You don,t fool me. I bet you were all lunch guests of Nigella, the ones she was cooking for as she pouted her way through cooking kittens tongues or whatever she did.

It was probably that very thought that led her to the nose candy Duncan!

Forget the wine in Aldi - the posh set know that their LBV port is an extraordinary bargain, as is their 10 year old.

We bought 24 bottles for the club dinner.

What kind of a club is yours then? Did you all sit round propped against boats in the dinghy park swigging out of brown paper bags whilst you soiled yourselves? Has the dinghy aristocracy descended to this?

It's been a while since I drank in a dinghy park, but if I keep the Solo for much longer then soiling myself will be an inevitability.

Royal Alfred YC - the club that is at the origin of amateur sailing, the racing rules and so much more. We have never had a clubhouse, but the annual dinner is always in November, always black tie and we always serve game (usually pheasant).

Membership fee - €30 a year!
