Buy a solo save your family money later on a coffin. Each boat comes with free Saga membership.
Plus thee amount of grief you have given everybody else about old classes and then you try/ buy one all cred gone.
Is it April fools day come early?

Well one minute I'm wanting an easier strong wind boat, and I thought Solo, then I witness this travesty and there's one for sale someone suggested I try, so you kind of get sucked in, then luckily I hear rumours of new Punks at the dinghy show and there's that RS to also check out so I shall not be committing to anything, but maybe I should sit in one and give it a try, will I suddenly become like the man drinking from the wrong grail cup and age rapidly then die?

Good grief what the heck is going on GRF ... did you hit the bottle through driftathon boredom?? A Soslow, you are actually considering one? Must have been the Dr Who anniversary, kicked off some kind of godimgettingold type of thing....

Next thing we'll be reading your dross about the joys of tactical racing in displacement yachts and the need for cravats & jackets when approaching the windward mark or doffing ones cap to address to RO.  Possibly even contemplations on the use of white & red pigments mixed into gel coat for deck mouldings.  Get a canoe or a moth, or for that terrible pond, a Europe or Byte C2

As for the Solo, there are better light wind boats, but they tend to be rather specialist and lose out more when the wind does pick up. The Solo does seem like a good all rounder. Rocker and a slim transom at the waterline will always affect top speed, but make a boat less sticky in the lighter stuff. Old fashioned balanced design, not just aiming at strong wind blasting.

That said, the one I owned was horrible, heavy and bendy. I did borrow a lovely wooden one once, and the difference in speed was astonishing. It wasn't that new, either, just well looked after, so a new epoxy one, light and stiff with a well cut sail must be lovely to sail. Rather have a Lightning, though - the Solo class do seem to take themselves pretty seriously...

I used to love light wind sailing - chess on the water at its purest. Still would, but knowing I won't be able to walk the next day makes sitting in the exact right position for minimum wetted surface a thing of the past, so these days I have to compromise, which makes it less fun.

I'm not falling for that one mate ;-)

I couldn't care for championships, series points or a bit of glass at some prize giving I have no intentions to attend... I will simply check the forecast before wasting a day like this :-)
