Getafix, sorry, you misread that, it's only at Lymington.

RS100 owners are like Lada owners, they know what they've got isn't great, but they'll bang on about how good it is and defend it till death!

I always figured once the hype had died down the D-1 would come through as the better choice for most.

Looks like a good fleet of d-1s at Lymington now ...

The D-1 is a fine boat, but that is a gross generalization.

LTSC has a 7.4 competing every weekend for the last couple of years.

it was covered earlier on this thread, but we'd all be forgiven for getting a bit lost in here now and again!

In reality, I doubt you'd be kicked out of an event for rigging one, in fact Nick Peters makes a point of saying you'd be welcome with open arms.  I guess if you're the only one it would be a good way to get a prize as they'd no doubt score you separately in anything carrying the Championship moniker.

Gurnard had a 7.4 competing regularly off a higher handicap iirc...

Thanks for clarifying that, Yellowwelly. The RS site suggests the 7.4 sail is just like the other two, i.e. for racing not just training.
  • The early response to the RS100 from sailors around the world was incredible and we quickly realised that both big and small sailors really want this boat to work for them.
  • Having looked in detail at the ways to broaden the competitive weight range the RS100 has three mainsail size options: 10.2m, 8.4m and 7.4m
  • A width adjustable performance equalisation system would have added considerable cost and meant that light sailors had to carry a lot of lead in the boat. We don’t think this is what the RS100 should be about.
  • Three mainsail sizes (as per standard Laser main, Radial and 4.7) keep the boat simple and suit a wide weight range

7.4 is not class legal- it is a training aid only. Naturally a local club can provide a bathtub with a teepee on top with a PN, therefore a metre less sail area ought not tax your sailing club bean counters too much.

As for weights... Depends entirely on location.
