except when the punter bought a 500 s/he didn't expect to be sailing against 400s -
If someone showed up with the little 500 rig, would they not be allowed to compete with the 500 XL rigs?

"Not News" The shocking revelation that the same people who liked sailing with 10.2 and 8.4 sails before, chose to use them, at the same time, in the same venue, at the end of season champs. Wow. I'm sure if there is a need to count to more than 3, then emergency measures can be called upon, probably by helicopter, to rectify.

News enough to be the opening paragraph of the Press Release.... Oh well... I guess it's an easy way to get a podium in an International ISAF Class these days, considering the 8.4 isn't the one ISAF actually recognise currently. Edited by yellowwelly - 15 Nov 13 at 6:27pm |

According to the RS website, there's now a third sail option for the RS100. So the choice is 10.2, 8.4 and 7.4 sq. metre sails. Has anyone seen the 7.4 sail in action? What helm weights are suited to each sail size?

7.4 is not class legal- it is a training aid only. Naturally a local club can provide a bathtub with a teepee on top with a PN, therefore a metre less sail area ought not tax your sailing club bean counters too much.
As for weights... Depends entirely on location. |

Thanks for clarifying that, Yellowwelly. The RS site suggests the 7.4 sail is just like the other two, i.e. for racing not just training.
This is from http://www.rssailing.com/en/explore/rs100:

it was covered earlier on this thread, but we'd all be forgiven for getting a bit lost in here now and again!
In reality, I doubt you'd be kicked out of an event for rigging one, in fact Nick Peters makes a point of saying you'd be welcome with open arms. I guess if you're the only one it would be a good way to get a prize as they'd no doubt score you separately in anything carrying the Championship moniker. Gurnard had a 7.4 competing regularly off a higher handicap iirc... Edited by yellowwelly - 15 Nov 13 at 7:39pm |

LTSC has a 7.4 competing every weekend for the last couple of years.
Although it is the only 100 left at the club as it's been taken over by those pesky kids , sorry those pesky d- one's

I always figured once the hype had died down the D-1 would come through as the better choice for most. Looks like a good fleet of d-1s at Lymington now ...

The D-1 is a fine boat, but that is a gross generalization. |
