A convenient ex-pat?

So the 10.2 winner will be "the" world champ and the 8.4 will be the subsidiary champ based on "discipline" ....

that bit's quite odd reading.... but it looks like we were wrong, it's not a noddy world championship....

damn, wish I still had a boat and could have gone... Top 8 guaranteed in an Approved ISAF Worlds...  LOL

I just checked the ISAF regulations.

1) It seems no longer necessary to appoint an IJ, given ISAF permission. Quite right too IMO, bearing in mind events where an IJ has had nothing to do except get bored.
2)
25.2.5 The World Championship right granted in Regulation 25.2.1 may be open, or may be restricted on the basis of gender or age. All ISAF Classes may also award the following subsidiary World Championship titles:
(a) one Women’s World Champion title
(b) one Youth World Champion title (which may be on the basis of gender), where youth crews are so defined by the Class.
(c) one further World Champion title on the basis of gender, age or discipline.

25.2.6 Those competing for a subsidiary World Championship shall race as a separate fleet. The number of participating entries in this fleet shall meet or exceed the number of entries shown in the table in regulation 10.4(b), and the fleet shall include entries from more than
one continent.

10.4.b requires (for boats under 6m) 30 boats from 5 countries and 2 continents (these are relaxed for bigger boats).
10.4.b also includes
If a Class has failed to meet this requirement for two of their last three World Championships, it may only call its next such event a World Championships and award World Champion titles if the participation levels at that event meet this requirement.

So as far as I can see there is (rather to my surprise) nothing wrong with the RS100 having two separate World champions this time, provided one (presumably the small rig) is called a subsidiary, and also (assuming permission) nothing wrong with them not having an IJ. However unless they can ramp up turnouts appreciably they may well have problems in future maintaining the right to hold such events.
They also need to be very grateful to their one non-European competitor!!

[Later]
Its amusing that, if (big IF he says again) I read the regulations correctly then with an entry for the whole event of 38 boats from 6(I think) nations on two continents the whole event just scrapes into the regulations, and with 31 boats from 6 Nations and two continents the "subsidiary" worlds for the small rig just scrapes in, but the supposedly main world championships doesn't seem to be required to hit the 30/5/2 regulation. Not, I suspect what was intended! I wonder if there'll be a little rewriting of the regs coming up?

RS are doing a good job of making the 100 looking like a mickey mouse class, no IJ at a so called "worlds"/is it two classes? is it one?/can we have two "world champs"?/ and all for about 30 odd boats! Clown

sadly this isn't the Highlander, an ISAF World Champs is supposed to be a bit of big deal in these here sailing parts.  It seems pretty clear that the 10.2 is the real class to me.  It's the size listed on the ISAF website under the class details- even if the class rules are little ambiguous given the recent vote that was so say, 'carried'.

Anyway I hope the chaps in the girlie rig are having a nice regatta, but it's not a world championship- not by a long shot.  It's a World Championship in the 10.2 fleet- there are 7 competitors according the write up.

I don't understand? The class rules, the nor and the ISAF categorisation are of a single class.

I guess they are going to crown 2 world champions despite all of the above.

Quite right, we should at least wait for the same class to crown two ISAF World Champions before taking the pee and posting photos of Big Ears...
