I believe it depends on the class constitution, they do have one I assume?

Usually only members of the class association get a vote so if you don't join the club you don't control the rules; that is fair enough.

If you do join the club and don't vote then you deserve the rules you are given.

I fear the poor representation of opinion is just a reflection of the youth of today ... don't get me started on that ...

From my limited experience I think that's actually quite a high turnout for a class rule vote.

although my mafs aren't bad...

'38 votes, equals 44%', therefore total class membership is 85/86 members.  With c.400 boats sold, that means the class represents less than 25% of the owners.  With less half again actually voting, with only 2/3rd then voting in favour... presumably because for the rest who abstained the wording was poor / they don't give a sh*t?

Sadly I'm more the latter than the former.... and assumed the announcement on the website and new rules download meant it was a done deal. My Bad...

Not so fast young yellowwelly ...

The RS100 class rules are here:

If there is ever any query or protest on class rules for an ISAF class then the jury (or protest committee) will always defer to the class rules on the ISAF website.

If there is a change to any class rule then ISAF have to approve that and then you will see the class rules updated on the ISAF site.

Any other document has no formal standing.

Why can't the Contender Class seek special dispensation, like the RS100 Class, from having an IJ?

Well it is 280 Euros to enter the Contender Worlds at Como this year and it is only 70 Euros to enter the RS100 Worlds at the same venue. However the Contenders are a week long event with IJ and the RS100s have no IJ and a 3 to 4 day event.
