Actually I think this discussion has rooted out the problems with the proposed rule change that impacted both owners and people who will be racing against 100s on PY so actually I think it is not pointless and will actually lead to a revised rule which is all rather worthwhile IMHO ...

OK, maybe that happened about 4-5 pages ago, the rest has been pointless at best.... thank goodness the RS100 guys appear to be treating this with the very large pinch of salt it needs to be taken with

Wrong. No they won't. Read the proposed rule. And do not accuse me (wrongly) of cheating, or breaking rules. It's rude, libellous and when you have your facts wrong, reflects badly on everyone. As worded, if it passes, I can still sail my 100 with a 10.2 at my club, under 86kg, unless another RS100 with an 8.4 turns up on the same start line for the same race. Given there are no other 100s at my club, let's cross that bridge if we ever come to it. And please don't assume, should that happy situation arise, that I would not choose to use the same rig so we could have proper, equal class racing anyway, because, of course, I would. Until then, I can sail whichever rig I choose, whenever I like. All this assumes the rule change is passed by the class members AND ratified by ISAF. Given, as I keep saying, the wording is clumsy and does not achieve what was actually intended (which was nothing to do with club racing, see Nick Peters posts above), it may never go to ISAF as currently written. Meantime, I can sail what I choose, to it's published PYS (my stats for which will have gone to the RYA) Further, I repeat, the 100s do not have a weight equalisation system, unlike 700s, 800s etc. That we do is a fallacy and an incorrect assumption. Please do wipe it from your minds; some of you are barking in the wrong woods, never mind up the wrong tree. Is this message ever going to get through??? And no, 2547, you have not helped flush out a wording problem - it was identified and flushed out on the class forum almost immediately the proposed rule change was distributed to the class

How is that so? This says ... C.1.2 (iii) All racing below championship level, where the 2 classes start together, may additionally organise results as one fleet and one set of results, so long as results are calculated using a locally recognised handicapping scheme and only sailors weighing in excess of 86kgs may use the mast extension and 10.2 sail. Regarding weight equalisation, I understand it is not doing so in the same way as a boat with lead and sliding racks but by streaming people by weight you are seeking to remove weight as a significant performance factor so it is a form of equalisation. |

What part of 'where the 2 classes start together' is difficult to understand or unclear? This section C.1.2 (iii) is the only one that refers to weight. I don't start at my club with any other 100s. So, as I said, this clause does not apply, even if it becomes a Rule. But is it pretty clear that this was not really aimed at club racing and it will quite likely change to "All RS events below championship level"

I had read that to mean anything other than single fleet racing. So at 85kgs (or below) you could be all rigged and ready to go with your 10.2 then Fred turns up to sail his 100 and so you then have to switch to the 8.4?

I don't have a beef. Just interested, this is an internet forum where people discuss stuff ... I didn't open the discussion on this rule change. The 100 fraternity has always sought airtime here ... just look at this thread ... almost 200 pages. Edited by 2547 - 28 May 13 at 4:23pm |

I repeat. There are no other 100s at my club. The chance would be a welcome thing. Sadly. too many people have swallowed the fallacy that the 100 does not work RTC on a puddle. Personally, I reckon I have more thrills (and spills) than I would in anything else including a Phantom (tried that too) and I enjoy our place far more than I did racing the autumn series at HISC. Yesterday was mega - really testing sailing in a Laser according to one of our top guys. That was nothing to my beast, we agreed. But if a visitor came with one, there is a pretty strong chance I would know about it in advance, don't you think? Frensham is hardly HISC, everybody pretty much knows everybody - the news would filter through
