probably out in the 2000 doing endless seamanship skills. all the kids from the club have gone to the nssa champs at Datchet so should be a good time to amke the mistakes without a audience!

the interesting thing with this sail is that it actually responds to the controls properly, or at the very elast it's forgiving to my yankings... it's not overly twitchy and sensitive, but it's also easy to choke it with too much kicker, cunningham and outhaul. My first upwind leg I cranked it all on tight (as you would a laser), but progressively begun to ease it all back a bit and found both pace and groove. The tell tales stream perfectly and this is the first sail since my Oppy days that I seem to be able to do that with.
I'm not kicking the hyde sails I've had on RS boats, they're great for one design stuff because they're relatively cheap, but I do like the fact that this sail has been cut for a specific mast with a view to matching my requirements for more downwind performance. It opens up nicely downwind, but holds a nice stable pattern upwind too. I can feel the difference in quality for sure.

glad you had a good sail, i did as well, just down the road in leamington. i didnt think it was too cold either, but i dont think another moth sailor at my club would agree. he also capsized gybeing, late on in the race and got so cold he couldnt right the boat and had to be rescued. re HD sails. not surprised, andy and jim know more than most on how to cut a great sail ![]() speeds used to cut good moth sails when andy was there and i am using a purple sail that was cut by jim and its a great piece of kit. sailing is fun... only 3 solos out yesterday as the forecast was pretty nasty- snow, 30 knot gusts, 0 deg... the reality was a good blasting weather, but not so windy to reach for the windsurf board which I'd taken just in case. There was rain, but no snow and it wasn't cold in a drysuit, hat and gloves.
I actually had to a) Hike and b) plane off wind.... the Solo was fun, okay not the fastest I've gone on water, but there was enough pitching, rolling, spray and bouncing to make it a very fun ride. I had my first capsize in it too. Chasing a guy at the gybe mark, he went for a chicken gybe and went for the gap... I went over and got a veritable schooling in seamanship from the old hand. I was doing well upwind too... nice sail that HD one, sets beautifully.

Well that was an immensely windy sail tonight! A good solid 25 knots according to the club anemometer. Two swims but as exhilarating a downwind ride as I can remember in 30 years.
