I think they were probably just 'not considered' at all  Confused

How can the new rule proposal completely ignore the smaller 7.4m2 sail?

Are they considered just a  training rig?

Would probably explain to them why that had to spend 3 weeks with the gelcoat and wet and dry before they took it sailing!

7.2 - my bad. White sail = main/jib - sorry, I'm too old to adjust for the fact there are often now see-thru

Kicker and cunningham - you defo need to master these - if you get the sail controls set right, the boat is so much easier to sail, otherwise it's like golfists trying to putt with sand wedges or F1 drivers using tyres stolen from Sir B Wiggins

4:1 etc refers to the purchase/mechanical advantage - means less effort to pull tight, but more string required as a consequence

Kicker is actually a GNAV in the 100 - yanks say Vang, not kicking strap, and as our device pushes the boom down (rather than pulling as in a 200) GNAV is "vang' backwards.

Windyboarders who don't know better call the cunningham a downhaul

But the important thing is just keep up the enthusiasm - this is the ultimate sport

Thanks for all the friendly replies guys. I feel all warm and fuzzy... or maybe that's just the vino?

I'm just about happy with the 7.4 (why do most people keep saying 7.2? I'm 99% sure it's 7.4 but now I'm doubting it) in a F3 so when I'm out in it in a F4 then I think I'll switch to the 8.4 for F1-2 (although I hate F1s as they're dull as tea with my granny). Good to know others of my weight range are fine with the 8.4... unfortunately my ability range, i.e. bottom of the pile, hinders me from being too keen to unfurl it.

That pic looks how I feel most times I'm out on the 100... although I did manage my first ever dry capsize last weekend which made me very happy indeed. I know, doesn't sound like much to you guys but for me it was a pretty big deal! (The sea is still pretty chilly right now).

I'll look up the book as well, thanks. Just reading 'Wind Strategy' or something like that right now. Wish I'd paid more attention at school. And yes, I'm the Hanna that commented on YouTube... not many Hanna's missing an H, let alone commenting on 100s!

Pond sailing and related issues make sense now. I'd not really thought too much about it. Trees and banks do sound very annoying... but equally so is not being able to physically launch the boat due to the crashing waves against the beach. Not that you'd really want to sail in that anyway. Not sure about this reaching lark? Isn't that for triangle (trapezoid?) courses? I've only ever sailed ww/lw courses (sausage) so beats/runs - am I being spoilt again?

So, this kicker and cunningham you all talk of... hmmm... maybe I should look into that. ;) 4:1? 8:1? Damn, I remember someone talking about that in relation to 800 sailing... more reading to do... silly questions aplenty otherwise. Did I mention I only started sailing last July and the 100 is my first boat?

WTF is white sail? See, you said I could ask silly questions! Don't worry, I expect just as silly answers. Cake at the Nationals for the best reply.

Gybing strop. Right. Yes. Does that mean I have to actually look and think about the boom as well as everything else when gybing? Damn. That may have to wait a while.

Given my total newness, and therefore ineptness, I'm limiting my attendance at Open meets this year. I've swapped my club duty for the 31 August though so should be able to attend the Nationals and will most likely go to Datchet at the end of the year.

Right, I think that's enough of making a fool out of myself for now. Don't worry, I'm a quick study and seem to be picking up this boating lark relatively quickly - so I'm told anyway. Half the club think I'm nuts for getting the 100 and half think it's great and want a go. Given 95% thought I was nuts when I first got it I think I'm doing well on the conversion rate!
