No one suggesting that its a D-1 vs 100 thread or that the 100 position is a mess ........ apart from your email. Wink

Its 4 pm on a Friday afternoon, so no harm in a healthy discussion.

no you can't, and if there is no mess to sort out, as it's only 'perceived', the chap who wrote this on the class forum needn't worry too much about canvassing opinion on that redraft  Wink

Reading it again, does (iv) prevent me (being under 86kg) from using my 10.2 in Frensham club races? If so, whether this goes thru or not, I shall continue to use the bigger rig regardless.

The more I look at it, the more this weight limit looks like a one-way only anachronism. Why is it OK for heavy weights to trade down rigs when it suits but lightweights not trade up? Surely it has to be both or nothing.

me too, with this thought. You can sort out a real mess. You cannot fix a the 'mess' that is perceived solely in the minds of the uninvolved but not actually there.

I don't think any of us 100 sailors have any interest in any 100 v D1 nonsense either; I've not mentioned D1s once. Mr Craig was out in his at Frensham (great practice for Garda!) and it too looks like a cool machine. He beat me of course, but he always does.

I was hoping for some sensible weather at POSH and to cadge a try. Personally, I think it would have been fun to start together there too, not 5 mins apart, but the SIs are what the SIs are.

perish the thought... I'm only in one as there's no viable fleet racing in anything else near where we are.

I even had to give it a different colour deck to stop me falling asleep.

(I'm of course jesting- it's nice enough for a sailboat, and frankly for a bit of local fleet racing it ticks the primary boxes- the guys are friendly, the boats are built beautifully, the modern twists (nice rig, good fittings etc) make it far more enjoyable than a Laser- worth the money imho... but do I feel the same passion for it as I did with say the 100, my Musto Skiff or even my Vareo initially... no, sorry; it's more utilitarian than that and I don't think it pretends to be anything but.

Thats excellent news for the class martin, trouble is only 5 of them seem to of registered their boat on the register and even fewer appear with any later numbers in results.  But then again i guess it compares to our 35 boats sold, 10 of which to the UK Wink

Thanks for the update, any truth in the rumour that a new sail is being developed in the 9m2 size range?

fair enough... I guess hanging on as the last finisher at Parkstone in the final race and capsizing more than 7 times on the final run, I kinda found the 10.2 proved less than equal at times. LOL

That said, Nick was very kind afterwards and advised that maybe letting the kicker off would have helped.  And in truth, on the 7th capsize I did actually receive some unrequested, outside assistance when the guy in the rescue boat whilst looking sorry for me flailing around off Brownsea somewhere, announced 'mate, put your feet down... you can stand up there.'  Which I then did, and climbed aboard and sailed to the finish without any of the dramas Mr Fuller encountered getting back aboard after tipping it in the pish.

Anyway I can see why it would make sense to move across to the 8.4 for the circuit events- especially if there's a reasonable forecast and it's a coastal event.  In truth faced with the choice of a completely new sail, or using the 8.4 to 'fit in', I know I would probably choose the latter and hope it honks.  So FWIW- Good call on not rolling out another sail, that should address the confusion.... but please, someone protest Clive when he turns up with the big rig, just for the sh*ts n' giggles og getting him on the scales in a protest hearing in his underpants!   LOL
