Ruscoe, virtually all of them - some of course sold through our dealers in other countries.
Maybe Minorca or Neilson had a new one, can't remember.
RS100 not exactly a big seller with sailing schools

30 boats is good work well done, how many to retail punters?

You know us James - we're into this daft sailing game. We consider everything! All the time!!
We considered whether a middle size sail would be better but concluded the 2 sails were better - just needed the clarity of different results - stop over-expectation of equalisation. Majority of people in the class we discussed it with agreed.

I think it's a shame if people lose the ability to use a smaller sail on windy days and have their results count.
Don't forget, for a lot of people, racing an asymmetric is partly about getting around the course and enjoying yourself.
Given that last year's evening series seemed to be 1/3 quite windy/very windy, 1/3 pretty light/too light and 1/3 stuck in the office, a lot of people could use some flexibility.
At a basic level, the finer points of PY are often obscured by not many people sailing enough races to avoid counting a DNS or six...

Of course the 20% of owners who do opens or nationals have different priorities, at least some of the time.

Thanks Martin,

Just for clarity, is there any truth in the rumours about another sail size being in development?

cheers!

4 suits?

No one who would have a 10.2 would buy a 7.4 and kite same for all. Max you need is 2 mains. Its a bit like saying you would by all three laser rigs for the same person. I might as well get out and swim than put a 4.7 on the old tub!

D-one offers a smaller sail as well unless I am mistaken Stern Smile

D-One can handle a wider wind and weight range with a single sail - period
RS has narrower wind range with each sail, but you wont need all three.

Well this spurt of activity here gives me the perfect excuse to fill you in on the real world of the RS100 right now!

It continues to grow nicely from where I sit. Around thirty something boats delivered so far this year (not in the office right now) which puts it way ahead of all other performance single-handers I reckon. Challenge me if I’m wrong anyone. As ever, a good number of them to UK sailors and a spread to other parts of the world. The building fleet of sturdy Viking Gods in Sweden are, as you’d imagine, mainly going for 10.2s so they can rape, pillage and blast back across the North Sea.

Used boats seem to be in pretty short supply and less sailors changing now. With such a big initial surge there was bound to be a number who found the boat didn’t suit them – isn’t that generally the case with new performance classes? I had a 49er for a (very short) time – couldn’t get used to sailing with my knees trembling downwind…

The rule change proposal is partly about making clear that the 8.4 and 10.2 sail sizes were never intended to be an equalisation system. We knew the performance would be different and argued for different PYs. The fact that the rigs are sometimes more similar in speed than expected had lead to some over-expectation. So now it’s clear – separate results – use a handicap when you want to combine them.

Happy sailing in your chosen ship!

Last time I looked there about a 3-4k difference in price between the 100 and the d1.
D1 is an expensive machine.
I had a go of an early one and liked it although it felt like a bigger boat overall and it didn't feel as comfortable to me when hiking hard and I hated the long kite sock running through the cockpit. However the build quality was superb. It's a boat that will be around for a long time.
