glad there was no damage to the pink one. Smile

knowing where you boat is parked and draycotes high water level, i am surprised it did not float away.

I'll give it a bash this evening... I've tried it before, but in more wind than that was shot.  The windward capsize was just a complete muppet mis-timing thing, plate right up and lost it... happens to the best of us.  LOL

I've never really been a fan of pulling the plate right up. Without some plate down the boat will instigate a roll much faster. A bit of plate will act as a brake on the roll and buy you time. I feel it also gives the rudder something to work against.
Best wishes from deep in the woods

cheers SB... I was wondering that also myself.  Besides I'm seeing the guys around me tend to sail deep angles- when they over-cook them, or they luff each other silly, then sure, there's gains on the rhumline dead down wind; but when they nail them they have a lot more boat speed and can make better VMG, even in lighter winds.

Like wise, we found on boards half up half down never really did anything much other than make the board unstable, so leave the plate down until it's so windy you have no choice but to kick it up was the rule we used and it's kind of difficult to change the habit of a lifetime in a boat.

I've pulled the plate a couple of times on that EPS on the lake but it didn't make anything like the difference adjusting the rig correctly did and it leaves you wide open to an upside down boat with no plate to grab particularly if your cutting it close sailing by the lee.

However there is one sure way for jimbo to prevent that sort of windward capsize, generally improve the look of the boat and lose some unsightly fat in the process...

James, Get the board up down wind mate.  In all but windy conditions.  In my experience its faster.  I also found my board position upwind was critical.  Have you caliberated you board postions yet?  IIRC you should have marked the board to caliberate leading edge verticle (Lightish wind) trailing edge verticle (when hiking) and 45deg.  When the breeze starts coming into play keep raking the board until the boat feels balanced.  DDW i alays sailed with the board up but would pull some down if i had to make a significant change of direction.  At your weight (no offence) you need all the help you can get downhill.  1-1 sheeting, board up, postion in boat are all critical for us bigger blokes.

(cheers mate, I will continue to play around and see what works taking in all the advice I can get.  I've no real intentions to sail it heavy winds, it wasn't bought for that sort of sailing.  But if it does blow up mid race, then it's always useful to note some techniques- there's a marker for the heavy wind setting supplied by Winder, not that I've used it much yet.  As for DDW... I can see where both SB & you are coming from, but if I'm looking for good VMG and sailing angles, surely you need a fraction of plate?)

I do about 1/4 plate DDW in athe Firefly or Lightning, then drop it more for luffing up and gybing. Any less than that and the death roll becomes far more likely.
