I've never really been a fan of pulling the plate right up. Without some plate down the boat will instigate a roll much faster. A bit of plate will act as a brake on the roll and buy you time. I feel it also gives the rudder something to work against.

Duncan- boat blew off the trailer a while ago, it was tied down, just with a WikiGRF über-knot.
