I'm talking about customer attention, not manufacturing process... e.g. recommending which mast to go with the sail based on discussion with the end user, what control line set ups are in play on a specific boat, if there is anything special they'd like- be that shaping or just down to the choice of sail number colours etc.

When you do have a choice of sails, what really helps is if there's someone from the sail manufacturer really likes the class and actually sails it of choice- be they an actual measuring tape, scissors and sewing machine guy or a salesperson. It's part of the reason North are so popular in the UK B14 fleet- at one point we had a sail maker, salesman and accesories (covers etc) from North sailing in the fleet. It helped drive development of better shapes.

It also meant that when a couple of boundary-pushing Norths, an Ullman and a couple of Aussie sails were found to be slightly over the boundaries at a Worlds measure-in session in France, all the offending sails (regardless of who made them) were able to be quickly driven off to North France for an overnight trim down.

You'd be buying them from whoever you placed the order with. Whether you choose to place the order with Speed or go to Banks directly would be your choice.

My question is "Who owns Speed Sails?"
I'd simply like to be comfortable that, as a consumer, when I purchase a suit of sails I'm not inadvertently supporting the lifestyle of a dictator, criminal or other undesirable, who may or may not be located offshore. Apart from the ethical implications, one can often end up paying over the odds for goods and services once the offshore structure becomes overly complex.
For example:-

I'd agree with you on those points.
Best wishes from deep in the woods

I think we're all a bit tired of you banging on for the last 50+ pages trying to rubbish businesses you don't carry favour for.  You've obviously got some hidden personal agenda to deal with.

Here's an Idea.....If you don't like them......Don't use them....SIMPLES!!

Do you have the same problem with the house, car, kitchen appliance you buy/  Do you always need to know the directors name and address?

Move on please you're getting very boring!

or alternatively the welsh one-post wonder could enlighten us all with his witty prose and erudite assessment of this sailboats/speed fracas... the anticipation is killing me.

I don't think anything has been asked or questioned on here that isn't appropriate to a consumer-based forum has it?  The thread is even titled 'advertising'... if the commercial angles of the discussion aren't of interest, then do please switch threads, or ideally start something more interesting for us all to discuss.... more voices and discussion is good right?

this welsh one-post wonder isn't particularly interested in the sailboats/speed fracas...

I've used Speed's for years, wouldn't want to use anything else.  I've dealt with richard in the past and I'm glad to see the name still going strong, not rubbished on here

Well then we most certainly agree, it's a damn shame the legacy of Speed Sails has got dragged into this.

Anyway my apologies for being a little trite about the 1 post thing, I for one hope you stick around and keep posting now you're off the bench.

Happy Sailing

Well seems the simple questions remain unanswered.

The sails have no signature on them, you can see that from the photos.

The legality of the sails was know to be questionable and the UKFA has made a stand.

These guys should know better than to compete in this event with these sails unmeasured when the UKFA considers the sails not to be legal.

It is simple. I stand by my statement many pages back. The whole situation is shabby and is casting a poor light on all stakeholders.
