Just don't go spoiling it by drawing your course plan all over it with indelible marker! Ouch

Andy101, I have just figured out the corridor that you and Dougal are talking about. I'm aiming for a much tighter corridor due(ish) south that carries a high risk of me being caught becalmed for 12/24 hours.

I didn't fancy the bigger corridor as it is continuous upwind stuff and I will be out of action this weekend a lot and will be in Poland/Berlin for all of next week. I thought it best to get in some long reaching where I don't have to change course too much if at all. Also hoping the higher latitude will make easterly progress quicker. Big risk that I might be forced to overstep the first mark and need to come back for it as well.
Your corridor is much lower risk as it is windier and bigger, but then again you'll be tacking a lot and as you say a server crash could punish badly (although we seem to be free of those now).

That's the beauty of this game, you can take a few risks and learn, so it will be interesting to see if my move pays off against you guys. If it was the real race I would find these decisions incredibly anxiety inducing as I'm sure they must be for the sailors out there.

Bugger. Just double checked my route and the 36 and 48 hour forecast have changed substantially and my wind corridor has completely gone!

Looks like I'm going to following you guys.

To be honest I don't have much option as I don't think I can get far enough south for the corridor you are aiming at.

Just seen your second post - yes, it does look like it has disappeared.  Your strategy of going further west than me seems to have paid off - good call!

The winds have gone and changed again at the 5pm pre-update. My corridor is back open again so going for it....I may regret this...

I've lost out an awful lot, and it can only get worse, my plan was to stay east, but then chickened out o went the direct route, getting the worst of both. I appear to be heading for another hole aswell. Damn. I was in the 20ks at one point

So the big question is, will you all park up at Gough Island and let me catch up?

Its still looking good for my boat 'SimonG' out west. I expect I will park up around Gough Island in about 24 hours though, probably not for too long though! I think I am the top tightfisted forumite as I havent paid for any extra options.

Yes - going west paid definitely paid off.  I would prefer to be further south but there still looks like a corridor that will take me there eventually.  I am probably now helped by the moved ice gate as it means you can't go too far south because you have to come back for it.

So party on Gough Island and leave the tab for Craiggo if he ever gets there....
