Its not me, I think your confusing me with boltonsailing!

Im currently South of Cape Verde and in 237,000th ish approx. 12hrs behind Jharvey(Sparks23) and Dougal13.

I think I have spotted a quick way through the Doldrums but the damage caused by the container of shoddy far east goods has held me back. The gel-coat is now going off and hopefully I'll have the hull faired and back up to speed shortly!!!!

I was planning on Africa as well, and the Sailing instructions do seem to suggest that http://www.virtualregatta.com/news.php?id_news=1609&langue=EN

Its definitely round Africa first.

Remember Cape of good hope is South Africa, Cape Horn is South America!!!

We should all be crossing the Equator over the weekend, apparently we have to have a drink & make an offering to Neptune - as the real race is french they mostly seem to be drinking champagne Thumbs Up

Also have to start getting my head around the winds going the other way round the high & low pressure systems & that I guess is why we go round in a clock wise direction!

You were right first time, assuming you are looking from the South Pole.

Looks like the wind has filled in for you guys further east, so the advantage I thought I had being more West has just disappeared.
Will be tricky for all of us to head east after the doldrums as there seems to be south easterlies for quite a few days.

I think it is just head due south as quickly as possible now and then it will be a bit of luck on where the low pressures come through.

A tricky night coming up - my just skirting round the hole strategy appears to have failed.
