Yes, the Cape Verdes was a little tight, there are a few scratches on the port side of the boat!

I have drifted a bit further East than intended, but I have been trying to keep the speed up.  I am hopeful that I will just skirt round the hole (based on current forecasts) and benefit from having sailed a shorter distance than you guys (assuming the rhum line is actually the rhum line....).  Time will tell....

I think the weed I picked up off the coast of Portugal must still be wrapped around the keel. I'm watching all you guys sail on by!!!

Ok rb, you've spooked me.  I've chucked in a cheaky gybe which I'll hold for a couple of hours or so.  I won't be joining your party deep in the wild west though.

Given the wind direction you have right now that sounds a good move. The forecast 3-4 days ahead on your old course put you in some very light winds.

Of course the forecast could be wrong!

I can never tell, is the forecast a forecast or is it the weather that they set?

I'm watching the edge of the hole very carefully.  A few miles west now will put me back where I was intending to be in the first place.

It will be very interesting to see how it all pans out, with the leaders glued to the African coast in a hole compared to those who have gone a long way west.

Now i'm worried. I was just planning on going south and dougal was just behind me when he gybed.
Oh well i think i'll keep going for now and see what it looks like tomorrow.

I'll be gybing back very soon - I think South is the way to go but not if it means running into the hole.  Hopefully a couple of miles west will mean I will just skirt it.

What is your boat name?

Assuming the hole I am about to go into only lasts until the morning as forecast then a lot will depend on which line picks up the best track into the Southern Ocean, at the moment I would say going quite close to Brazil but if that changes then being west could be even more costly than the current rankings show!
