well I'm glad I gave the final excuse to part with the 'ball.  Yep, see you on the water with that beast you're fixing up- perfect for Wednesday Nights 2013 - looking forward to it already ;-)

as an aside on stereotype colour preferences- interesting that the 49er FX is blue sails? Glad it is, BTW.

Are they a manly shade of deep blue, though, or a girly shade of powder blue?

This in a wholly inappropriate sailing boat to be introduced into this subject thread.
I was feeling quite warm and cosy about all this until the mention of a 49er disguised
as an Enterprise.
Please cease and desist and stick to vessels that can be used comfortably sitting down.
Thank you.

Yes what's a 49erFX doing in this thread?  I heard there were 12 rigs sold globally the other day.  We had more Solos out than that at our club on Sunday... and there was no wind.  49erFX indeed.... whatever next?

it was sort of a comment on the whole "pink stuff for girls" idea- girls have no natural inclination towards pink specifically, that's entirely the fault of parenting and society...

Absolutely, and if you look back to 19th century fashions, pink was considered a very masculine colour.  It was even designated that boys should dress in pink at first, whereas girls should be in the flighty, sky-like serene of blue.  Basically the yank manufacturers then f**ked it up... and the rest as they say, is the fault of US Foreign Policy and cultural export.

Is that a long winded way of blaming Barbie?

My wife wrote her dissertation on Barbie... it's a subject of great academic debate, run a tape measure around a Barbie Doll, scale it up to average height and then try to tell your daughters/sisters/female friends why they've got body issues with the notion of an 'ideal female form'.

I think the fact that it's a bit pink is the least of its faults.... some would say the same statement applies to my Solo LOL

Well if that's the case, it would suggest that GBR has all but 2 of the rigs? I know the 10 rig quota per country put forward by ISAF for the FX was taken in under 2 days by the girls applying to the RYA, and all of them have now been delivered.
