I kinda like the fact 5 boats shot the line and had to go back.... it's a race after all, no sense starting minutes after every one else... just looks fantastic every 4 yrs when they set off, I've loved this race and it's whole vibe since watching Alain Guatier's Baggages Superior campaign many races ago.

....you can polish up your Francais with this clip too!

Just imagine if you went out for a mountain ramble and he flew past, I think it would be a very brown trouser moment. The guy is nuts, but very skillful, wouldn't take much to be grazing your chin on the footpath

Good to hear that wooden Scorps can still be competitive  Big smile A boat I've always liked the look of but never sailed (no fleets locally).

Best wishes from deep in the woods

Shame there are so many plastic ones now though. The Scorp in wood is a very pretty boat!

its probably more to do with the fact that when its get windy Scorps rake the rig massively. If you don't use a lower clew then the jib is not going to have the correct tension on the leach. They also have a method of doing the same on the leach of the main to lift the boom up to where it should be. I could of course be completely wrong about that as I have never sailed one, but seen a few disappear past me upwind when its blowing

I think you will find that the sail has multiple clew rings, when it is light you use the lowest one, and as the wind increases you use higher clew points allowing tighter sheeting of the jib. The bit you can see on the deck is just excess sail.  Anyone clarify that for me? I am no Scorpion expert!
