I got to 36th on the Laser ladder.
I have won one and only one open meeting - at Rutland SC - in a Laser.
We were 4th around the 1st windward mark at a Fireball Nationals and about 24th at the Gybe mark and finished I think in treble figures.
I have a smaller penis than Ruscoes, but only just  Wink
Like some other things - sailing is more enjoyable when you do it with someone else

OK, I can't really compete with all the exotic competitive stuff, but I can claim, as a 10 year old, to have some of the best imaginable ever days on the water.  We are talking Trincomalee harbour, Ceylon (Siri Lanka)  in the late 50's. Trincomalee is second only to Sydney harbour as a huge natural sea harbour and, now it is no longer a war zone, one day will offer a fabulous sailing environment.

So the day typically went as follows.
AM: Load up the Fairey Ducking (forerunner of the Mirror) with picnic and Seahorse outboard.  Motor around with parents to deserted exotic beach for snorkelling on fantastic coral reef.  (Careful watch out for sea urchins, barricuda and deadly Lion Fish.)

PM: Sail aforesaid Fairey Duckling alone around jungle island in fresh breeze Trincomalee Harbour, shadowed at a distance by parents in friends' GP14.   (Plenty of scope to imagine hidden pirate ships etc.)

Night: (while parents busy in bar,) with mates, recreate scenes from recent the film "The Yantze Incident" where HMS Amethyst makes heroic escape from Chinese guns and dodges searchlights.  Props in this case: the aforesaid Fairey Ducking furiously powered by oars, and a WW2 AA Searchlight operated by mates in the ground of the club where we were staying.

Swallows and Amazons was never better.

I sailed a 470 with Paul Brotherton for ten days in Cyprus doing a photoshoot for a learn to sail book.

I have bought and specced out a brand new 470

I have raced 470s in lots of different places in France, Italy, Spain, Holland, Germany, Denmark, Belgium, all before lottery funding came in to make travel to places like the USA and Aus became more accessible.

I have raced my contender in a Worlds in Canada and a Nationals in Holland

I have beaten Ian Walker at Trivial Pursuit

I do not have a penis

the same, but different...

I once met the great and famous celebrity, G.R.F., who taught Sting to Windsurf, once lectured Nick Dempsey's Olympic Coach on sailing tactics, beat Fred Heywoods (and Crossbows)speed record (a big deal at the time) sailing with a rig he designed himself first time out, got banned a couple of times taking the piss out of dinghy sailors on an internet forum..  Wink

Otherwise life has been boring although I have managed to be in the top 50's in the British Finn Nationals, top 60's in the French Finn Nationals, top 70's result in the Belgian Finn Nationals, top 200's result in the Finn World Masters, top 200's in the Laser Nationals and, hopefully, be able to claim a top 40's result in the FOM this October.

I also have a pikey  Embarrassed

Clap That's a genius bit of video: "Have you seen the....whatever?"

Does the showing off have to be sailing related?

I once finished the Great North Run in a very good time, jogged from the finish line to the still-empty beer tent, used the fiver i'd pinned to my shirt to get a drink, stepped outside and said: "Piece of Pi**!" - as the bloke standing next to me vomited, collapsed and needed St John's attention.........

Sailingwise? - apart from some immense capsizes I can't really think of much LOL

you sir are a legend, i doff my cap. Outstanding beer drinking capabilities Clap
Cheers you

only me from over the sea......

1.I won the 470 Nationals (when the good guys didn't turn up).

2. I got a 6 month ban from the RYA for rule 69 (suspended so they can enforce it if they think I'm naughty)

3. Formulated the best epoxy sprayable primer/surfacer around (the company no longer make it!)

4. Laminated up some dodgy M1 raceboards in the early 80's that mostly fell apart (GRF knows a bit about these!)

5. Supervised the building of the best WRTW boat Steinlager 2 ( after the first Steinlager 2 blew itself apart in the curing oven!)

It takes one to know one  LOL

Don't they say 'once a pikey always a pikey'?  I seem to remember G.R.F. admitting to having been a pikey.  I think that was when he was when he was young and gay!
