I estimate I averaged about 0.4 knots for the second lap of this morning's race in my vintage (roughly Europe speed) International Moth. Can anyone beat that?

Much of the team racing we did at Uni seemed that slow irrespective of the wind speed.

Our sport becomes far more cerebral  the slower we go.

You may be on to something here....

That mad plane racing stuff  http://www.redbullairrace.com/cs/Satellite/en_air/Article/Plane-Types-021238615272944

or possibly that drag racing?

Sailing; reading the moth story on the front page of Y&Y, they reckon that the pace of development is such that they are probably 10% faster than last year due to devlopment

There's a lot in sailing that still confuses me (like why I spent yesterday sitting for 15 mins at the windward mark.  There was not even enough wind to blow me backwards. Stationary.  Absolutely stationary) but I really don't get that.

Can you imagine if they tried that in the America's cup?  What a spectator sport - both boats kedged on the start line waiting for the other to make first move.....

I watched 2 boats sat still on the start line, unmoving, for a good 10 minutes yesterday. Several more barely moving having never got that far, and one Laser gently moving up the beat. And he wasn't cheating! Just caught the gentlest of puffs and happened to be set up right for it. Not sure I have the patience any more for that, but in the end, a breeze of sorts set in, and by lunch time it was almost enough to actually enjoy.

Bit like formula 1, if they banned the fuel...

Track stands in sprint racing are now limited to 2 per race, and each of no more than 30 seconds.

Reminds me of the glory days of Rohan Veal when he found 10-15% every time he went out Smile
