I'm disappointed with myself that I even clicked on that DM link - disgusting waste of space claiming to be journalism.
I did notice the touchy feely approach trackside at the athletics and did wonder whether it was being used as a non-verbal 'stay and talk to me' approach? There would have been a line of reporters from all nationalities just off camera and the interviewer needs to hang on to a pumped up athlete long enough to get something meaningful off them. I don't agree with that though. In fact I don't understand the fascination of shoving a microphone under someones nose split seconds after they have won or lost to get their reaction.

I'm not a hugger myself, but given many people's readiness these days, athlete's included, towards public displays of affection, I don't think too much need be made of the interviewers' antics. I guess the Mail is always looking for something to get it's readers going...

Quite agree over Phil Jones, he was terrible, just used some pre prepared quotes and questions, was unable to vary the questions upon the responses and just seemed to want to get touchy feely with the competitors.
Wasn't he the same guy who wound Mark Cavendish up and got the backlash?

I'd rather have Rob Walker than Phil the athletics man any day. I thought he was being pervy with Jess Ennis, but it turned out he was like that with everyone. I thought Rob's enthusiasm was great.
My wife, who was reading 50 shades of sh*t during the racing, ended up sniggering throughout the races. I assumed it was some smut in the book, but it turns out she was laughing at the continuous references to 'The Danish Sailor'. |

We watched as much as we could stomach of the Richard Simmonds "commentary' on the first Finn race, and then turned the sound off. Apart from his juvenile dumbing down of terminology the thing that sickened most was his gushing, breathless references to Ben Ainslie in every sentence that he uttered. No matter what was being shown on the screen it was "Ben this.......and Ben that....."
The scandalous occasional references to "The Danish sailor...." (who eventually won that race) were unworthy of a serious commentator. We reviewed it later and gave up counting at the 150th mention of Ben's name. Fortunately Ainslie could win the series on his own, without benefit of the gusts of hot air coming from every one of Simmond's orifices.

It seems that Simmons & Walker aren't the only one to balls things up at the Olympics......... did anyone else notice that at last night's closing ceremony the stadium announcers introduced Harry Pothead as "Prince Henry of Wales" - http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b01m1l2q/Olympic_Ceremonies_London_2012_Closing_Ceremony/ 7:45 from the start.

The guy covering the coverage (if this makes sense) for the BBC did note that Rob was rather high up the "touchy feely" rankings, though not as bad as Phil in the Athletics- anyone else see the reaction of the Marathon winner yesterday to his inane questions? It was superb.
