I have both.

They are very different and both great in their own ways.

The Finn feels like real pedigree however and just feels right.

It is definitely slower though  on some points of sailing/some conditions.

My Phantom is almost exactly half the weight and with a very similar sail area makes a big difference in responsiveness which is reflected in the handicap. These and other factors make it very difficult to choose a Finn over a Phantom IMHO.
Still, seeing a Finn close up in the flesh I can see it is easy to be swayed....

I am guessing that you have never sailed a Finn?  I am sure that if you had this post may be somewhat different  Wink

That's not on is it? Own hair and teeth, that should carry it's own handicap. LOL

Think I'll suggest that gets added to the Forumites Funday Regatta handicap structure.

So this new member comes down this evening. BMW Z3, all Mustoed up, pretty girlfriend with curly hair, apparently he sails a 200 or some such. You know the type his own hair and teeth, works for some international accountancy firm. He gets out a club Laser (shagged) (they all are). Now I say to my mate Tony the Tiger (67, ragged 40 year old clothes, sailed for centuries, awaiting new Supernova, sold his old one and forced into simular club Laser), "Tiger", I say, "teach the b**tard a lesson". "Right on John". Do you know what? He failed, wrong teeth in, forgot his bung....excuses excuses. So, for half the race it was left to me to kick young spray tans arse in the geriatric Solo and it did!

You know the best thing is the sailing!

If I moved back to the east coast I would currently be sailing an OK (and probably developing liver disease)

I was expecting it to be "Knocked Out" (reversed like Knuds name) during gybes, but there is actually more room in the cockpit than the Solo.

The one I sailed was owned by a guy called Roger Cole- I thought the OK stood for "Old King" LOL
His son sails a Finn and they love them, but they are big people...

Thank you for pointing that out sheet puller, that is good news, the best use for those I've seen is an ornamental garden. I'm watching a programme on the New Forest at the moment and they are making charcoal, that could be another useful purpose for an OK, OK?
You are obviously not too clever GRF, if you actually are the mad keen sailor who knows everything, as you would like us to believe, you would notice that the ok dinghy is an amazing international class with one of the most competitive and high standard fleets on the non-olympic circuit, you know that chap who happened to win yachtsman of the year? Well that man happens to sail an ok and has been for almost 25 years and said it was the best boat he has ever sailed and that he would always sail it, that man happens to be Nick Craig. Further more we just had our 50th World Champs, with 152 boats all in one start, there where 14 past world champions competing, Bjon Allansen the Swedish finn sailor who just missed out on going to the olympics, and Andre Budzin who just happens to be a 3 times finn world master champion, On top of this a man called Stefan Myralf was sailing who happened to win the volvo ocean race in 2008/09. So why not get your facts straight before you make yourself look like a total idiot, again! Furthermore I don't see many people getting involved on that V-twin thing!
I think his posts show that GRF isn't over-endowed in the grey matter department and actually knows very little.  Like most bigots, his knowledge consists of what he wants to believe and what we are prepared to rise to.

ftfy...

I'm not arguing. I'm explaining why I'm right.
