Now, "The Boy" has a very liberal attitude to all things sailing, if he can win in it he will sail it. He did cast a perfunctory glance over my new aquasition and dismissed it because its level of decrepiude and magnificent display of Tuffnel would probably preclude it from winning anything (couple that with my level of decrepitude and marked lack of tuft) precludes me from even significant progress.

Now yesterday was a wild and unpleasant day. The lad chose to sail a borrowed Supernova in which he won. I however was on rescue duty and spent the day freezing to death in the rib whilst casting longing glances at the sleek and magnificent form of my new stallion.

I await progress reports on EPS sailing, my Solo has wide and comfortable side decks whearas your EPS has cheeky little extensions on which to perch your pert little bottom.

God save the Queen

All this news does, other than sadden me of ticklers soon to be demise, is to confirm the fact that there is no 'solution' to the question of a single hander that can do it all and be capable of being sailed by someone of considerable experience but no time to practise dealing with someones design night mare of a 'technical' boat.
The second point and far more relevant is that the parsimonious (that means tight to all you cherub wallers) nature of your average dinghyist is perpetuating this state and until they round you all up, ship you all out to Switzerland to do the 'decent' thing and have a bloody great bonfire of all your dross, the sport will forever languish right up there with crown green bowls in adult adventure seeking male appeal.

I'm truly sorry Tickler that its come to this for you, catching a disease like soloitus must be terrible especially when you don't realise just how debilitating it will become, I just hope some of the younger elements here can be spared. You are after all setting a very bad example, I hope 'the boy' gives you a good verbal  kicking, is he very ashamed?

Well the whole concept of the cvrda has hit mainstream. We all have old boats which cost very little or nothing.
As i said in another thread Holt must have got something right. The Solo was designed as the single hander for Wraysbury lake which Jack Holt helped to found.
A date for your diary Tickler 7th /8th July bring your Solo and join in the fun. New Holt boats welcome as well.

i must admit i am not that keen on solo's, but when you see how many people sail them and how many people buy them new, i know the boat must be good and more importantly fit for purpose.

so tickler, you are correct.

we should all sod off!!!! LOL

true, but an edge or p&b etc would also improve the boat at a lot less cost.
