I have a rope tied round the top part of the hinge and a bit of whipping twine through the metal hinde on the back of the gopro, all is tied and taped so the knots cant come undone. Mine is a massive overkill of rope etc but whatever I do, it will be tied to the boat by some means. I'll take a picture of it and upload it.
I think we need a "Go Pro Boat mounting" thread with pics of how we mount to our boats. The "super duper clamp that costs £60 the RYA provide to its staff, I have seen that break, the suction mounts break too on the suction pad. Wherever it is mounted it will be teathered/duck taped etc. |

Tiller Cam as I promised. Now i just need to find a way to mount it so you can see out of the boat!

Good advice and like the idea of a new thread. Over the years we have installed minicams in sorts of hostile environments from fast jets to race cars and I would never rely purely on the mount. Whipping twine is good because of its strength and it fits through the GoPro hinge.

The RS100 looks a tricky one. If you mount it on the boom I guess the rake is so much that all you look at is the cockpit floor and if you angle the camera up you just get a nice picture of the boom. How far back do you sit in it? Could you mount a suction pad to the top deck/wing at the back?

There's plenty of good 700 footage which has a similar kicked up boom.

Yes but the 100 has the mainsheet where this is mounted. Also suction onto deck grip just wont work! Thinking I might dig out an old carbon tiller extension, probably from my old 700 and mount the camera to that and attach to the boom. I would rather have it fixed to the hull so the footage is more steady though!

The Cherub class website has a bit of info on mounting cameras to boats. http://www.uk-cherub.org/doku.php/videos/tips tiller extension off the end of the boom is the best imo |

Fromt he videos I've seen, and it's never great watching a video from one position IMO, boom mounted is more dynamic to watch than tiller mounted.

I agree, my idea is to build up footage over the summer and make one final video. A mixture of head cam, boom cam, tiller cam etc.
Some footage from the foredeck facing backwards and forwards too. Its pretty easy to turn a go pro round on the sticky mounts.
