Congratulations Graeme on your boat, I think it is something to be proud of, to go with what you want to sail, rather then anything else, that the masses sail. I, in a similar fashion (I suppose) choose to sail older more unique boats for the enjoyment of sailing them, rather then buying a large production one design class boat, to sail in a large group, but there might be a less amount of enjoyment to get out of the actual boat, so I sail for enjoyment, I get a nice choice of what to sail, (as older boats are cheaper then newer ones, so I can afford the luxury of choice) I enjoy sailing them more then I would a larger production one design class (like a laser), although there are of course exceptions, but I feel that people should sail what THEY want to sail, not what the masses choose to sail. So I congratulate you on going and doing exactly that.

Horses for courses. I have done the fast'ish boats now for the quite life. I have just painted my Solo (which came free). It is plastic with four coats of paint, only two of them mine. It occured to me that the paint probably is heavier than a complete Cherub.......

but Looking at GRF's history with dingies he has never sailed a simple
singlehander. What fun it will be to just sail. get in it and sail. No
development, nothing to tangle. He may find that he just enjoys sailing
for the sake of sailing.
Blaze - not many as simple and even simpler than the EPS .. and with the benefit of hindsight the boat was one even Greame became a minor fan of .. although not at the time of course ![]() Who knows he might still become a born-again Blaze owner one day (I think the class is strong enough to survive) ... a decade or so before the Solo that beckons of course ...... Yes most definitely.
Younger fitter lighter ex 29er types don't have cash, as i recall that boat was a good few grand. The whole Industry is screwed by its fixation with youf, youf is skint and when it finally discovers cash, wheels and the opposite sex, sailing is the last thing on its mind.. I know this, the RYA did it to us as well, neglected the 30 -50 market segment, no training for them, all they have is jobs, money and time on their hands why would anyone be interested in selling them windsurfing or sailing.. Am I the target audience though Graeme? I might have aspired to it, and I might fancy scratching that itch when it comes back like a bad dose of the clap again... but really, I'd say the target market is fitter, younger, lighter, ex-29er types; not us kids who were brought up sailing displacement boats which favoured grunt over finesse when 3 x 2 hour races back to back was situation normal, and that was after sailing out from the 'proper' harbour in Weymouth for an hour to get to the race course.
It just happens that some older guys have the general sailing aptitude and awareness to get above this newer level of boat handling requirements- they'll still get their arses handed to them by the kids as the fleet age drops. I'd also say that learning in a group environment pays dividends and that if there were a fleet of Mustos at my club I'd probably have kept it and got out when I could.
