Scalewise, I'd be thinking of putting a cabin on it!

Is the boat really that big? Or is GRF actually a borrower?

It did only go over because I was being a complete muppet trying to bugger about fixing stuff, there's a couple of pics here, and there looks like some more on our club website.

As I said elsewhere the rest of the time it was a bit of a white knuckle thrill ride (not knowing how you should go about stuff doesn't help). I'm not going to post links but a bit of detective work will find shots of it going over and the charade trying to get it back up again.
The rig, the controls are all pretty crap, trying to operate two strings simultaneously was probably beyond my skill grade, I do like to make things difficult for myself and in conditions like that you need to have everything working half decent..

Anyway as I said back to the drawing board and inflatable kite accessories up top seems the way to go if I can't get my inflatable leading edge mainsail built. And I want to emulate the inflatable rack covers I saw at the dinghy show...

Problems only become problems if you let them, I'm still viewing them as challenges at this stage especially after the sheer thrill it was giving me prior to the upset..

I have often thought (while contemplating the bottom of my boat) that an inflatble sack at the mast head coupled with a thin tube to a gas cylinder at deck level and a line to operate it going through the centreboard slot might do the trick.

Not sure of the full details of your problems, but yes I would say so. I'm not saying I havent had my problems recovering cats in the past, but I have chucked it in and inverted in lumpy sea with big breeze before and dealt with it.

The significant advantage that normal cats have is the tramp. The big breeze that has just blown you over is then a massive help at blowing you back upright again. Once you get the wind under it that is.

Another factor is the size of your boat. I could see that being a struggle on your own.

Is your mast completely sealed? I've seen people really struggle and have to be rescued and it was down to the mast filling with water. On the Dart, the mast is so chunky that its a hell of a lot of water you could end up fighting against!

It would be harder to capsize. You will have to sail like a right muppet to pitch one in.... Wink
