There are folks on here who we might not always agree with, however in truth we'd probably share a very pleasant jar or two if the opportunity ever presented itself. That's because of one simple truth- the very thing that brings us here, binds us- the love of sailing. This fundamental similarity, so often overlooked, is far more powerful than any very minor differences that manifest themselves as a 'webspat' or argument.

This is why it's a shame that Atrocity, whoever you are, you didn't understand that after interacting on here, it would have been the totally normal thing to do to introduce yourself to the man, shake his hand and wish him luck before he launched- even if you'd couched it as 'break a leg old chap'.

It's not a lack of courtesy, it's understanding and perhaps we should all remember we are all far more alike than we are different.

+ 1 Clap well put, as allways, james.

in my very limited direct contact with graeme, i also have found him a good guy.

but he has created a persona,( on purpose )on the forum, thats means he comes across as a know it all a***hole.
so its a little rich that he has come over a little hurt because some people are saying nasty things about his boat.
after all it not as if he ever says nasty things about other peoples boats! Wink

Probably thought you we behave the same as you do in writing so didn't risk it ...

Graeme was already on the water when I arrived, he was one of the first on the water.  After the race, which was well over an hour, he stayed out.  I was there just under 2 hours and Graeme was on the water the whole time so there was no opportunity to speak to him.  Others at the club who I did speak to were very friendly and giving Graeme just as much stick as this BB does, especially the two ladies who served me the tea, bacon rolls and delightful cake.

[/QUOTE]Surely GRP can find someone with some camera skills? Smile

I think the safety boat crew from Sunday had a video camera, but I would think the tape has been well and truly confiscated by GRF and will never see the light of day.

In my mind, I'm not being 'nasty' at all, it's just a piss take as is probably 90 percent of the drivel I post here.

Way back I seem to recall waxing poetic about General Lee (It was a bright orange Merlin in Dukes of Hazard livery complete with air horns).

One of my colleagues here at work does Merlin week religiously and don't think I don't absolutely rip him apart verbally but it's all done in good humour, that's the problem with fora it's very easy to believe it to be vile and vitriolic where it isn't, hence not taking too much to heart the monkeys and atrocity's even though they are only semi literate in ironical terms.

If you met me in real life you'd get it instantly, there's always a wry comment with a wink a piss take or a means to spice any conversation with a chuckle, it's what makes the world go round and life less of a drudge. So do these places (forums) you meet loads of folk you'd never meet normally they are ice breakers, they can bring folk together who would never normally talk, at least other forums do, I've only met a few, but I feel I know lots of you, hence a little disappointed that the Atrocity fella didn't say hi, he is missing the point of all this.

Lots of us have run into each other in real life even Mark Jardine has spotted i"m not the total t**ser he first suspected and vice versa... Wink

So if it has served as entertainment, and I've met a few folk, learned absolutely stacks that I didn't know before and am personally enriched by all this, now would that have all happened if I tipped up here and signed myself on as another 'Merlinboy'?

Nope, didn't think so.

No, you probably don't, what with all that stirring you do, but there you go.

I am bemused tho as to what can be the rational reason (as opposed to emotional one) you are so nasty about the Merlin. I have no allegiance to it, but notwithstanding the now imitation clinker build, the things are otherwise awesome in so many ways. Have you even actually sailed one? Or is it solely an aesthetic, arm chair judgment? And no I cannot be bothered to read your 3000 odd postings to find out!
