can't we just put carbon tusks on the wooly mammoth and paint the sabretooth tiger's lips pink to hide the nastiness behind them? Seems to work for most folks in dinghyland...

I don't know how much Graeme has spent on the V Twin to date and it is none of my business. I do reckon, though, that it would be less than a new shiny, much the same as the last one verse chorus verse Merlin Rocket. Relative performance aside, I know which one Graeme is happier to own.
+1 It may not be the route all or us, or even many of us would choose to follow, but I can't fail to have admiration for what Graeme has taken on here. I don't think it's for me, but here is someone, who is putting a great deal of his time and money on trying out something new, in the hope of producing something new for dinghy sailors to sail. He may well fail gloriously, but I can't see how we can do anything but admire and welcome what he is doing. If no one was prepared to take the risks, and put in the effort, that Graeme has on trying out something new then we would all still be sailing Fireflies (perhaps that wouldn't be the end of the world, though I remember them being horribly uncomfortable - but it would certainly limit our choices a great deal).

Who really cares what graeme has spent on i for one dont give a monkeys so good luck to the guy for having the balls to do it in the first place and some of you on this forum need to grow up a bit and sit back just chill out and stop moaning and bigging up your own fleet
Well i for one enjoy watching the updates and the way he has gone about this is great some of you just wish you had the money to give it ago and no i dont know him personally but i know i would love a trip down the coast to have a go in it . Remember sailing is for fun and a way to relax if its not for you then sell your boat and do something else instead and stop moaning !

Rockhopper - I agree but please do remember mr Grumpy is the guy sl*gging all the other fleets..... He can cope with a bit of light hearted sl*gging in his direction. He will be sitting at Grumpy towers laughing at all the posts anyway. Anyway We are all hoping to get the 15% early adopters reduction rate if the v twin becomes the new hottest thing out.....then that will help the 2nd hand markets for 100's and Musto Skiffs...by the way I am being a touch sarcastic.

In my experience uninformed criticism usually tells you a lot more about the critic than the project.
Personally I've kept my mouth shut when it comes to predictions on this boat because its so far outside my experience that I really don't have the experience to judge. Maybe the brine shrimps of this world have more relevant experience than I do, but frankly I doubt it. |

This thread is turning into a mediaeval holy war between god-less trolls and the holier than thou 'let's be fair mongers.
What we need are more concrete results, feedback from testing etc. I can't believe the object of so much expenditure and interest has spent so little time on the water since August last year.

I think what we want to see is some wind, some video and some pictures that don't look like they've been taken from the moon. Surely GRP can find someone with some camera skills? ![]() |

FWIW I admire the challenge he's set himself, but as someone who has done something similar, albeit on a far more modest scale with a significantly lower risk factor, I can't help but think he's in for disappointment.
Even if his machine happens to provide really rewarding sailing, it'll never have anything else to race against, therefore it will never bring back memories of the fleet racing he has from the longboards. This will then have limited appeal, especially as with such extreme design parameters, you'll never get a consensus for a bonafide handicap even if does prove raceable. My heart says well done for trying, but my head says that this much passion, excitement, broad shouldered acceptance of criticism could have been channeled better in other directions by challenging mindsets rather than hull shapes. Maybe spending the money on a really tricked up kited Blaze, that can be switched simply back into unarig 'fleet' mode for racing would have been better for all if you really want to change things? Sadly doing a custom jobby for oneself could actually isolate you further, rather than provide the antidote to everything that's so backward and archaic in dinghy sailing. In the long term, I genuinely hope it doesn't cost Graeme his passion, even if the cash is lost.
