In my experience uninformed criticism usually tells you a lot more about the critic than the project.

Personally I've kept my mouth shut when it comes to predictions on this boat because its so far outside my experience that I really don't have the experience to judge.

Maybe the brine shrimps of this world have more relevant experience than I do, but frankly I doubt it.

Rockhopper - I agree but please do remember mr Grumpy is the guy sl*gging all the other fleets..... He can cope with a bit of light hearted sl*gging in his direction. He will be sitting at Grumpy towers laughing at all the posts anyway. Anyway We are all hoping to get the 15% early adopters reduction rate if the v twin becomes the new hottest thing out.....then that will help the 2nd hand markets for 100's and Musto Skiffs...by the way I am being a touch sarcastic.

Who really cares what graeme has spent on i for one dont give a monkeys so good luck to the guy for having the balls to do it in the first place and some of you on this forum need to grow up a bit and sit back just chill out and stop moaning and bigging up your own fleet
Well i for one enjoy watching the updates and the way he has gone about this is great some of you just wish you had the money to give it ago and no i dont know him personally but i know i would love a trip down the coast to have a go in it .
Remember sailing is for fun and a way to relax if its not for you then sell your boat and do something else instead and stop moaning !

I don't know how much Graeme has spent on the V Twin to date and it is none of my business. I do reckon, though, that it would be less than a new shiny, much the same as the last one verse chorus verse Merlin Rocket. Relative performance aside, I know which one Graeme is happier to own.

+1

It may not be the route all or us, or even many of us would choose to follow, but I can't fail to have admiration for what Graeme has taken on here. I don't think it's for me, but here is someone, who is putting a great deal of his time and money on trying out something new, in the hope of producing something new for dinghy sailors to sail. He may well fail gloriously, but I can't see how we can do anything but admire and welcome what he is doing. If no one was prepared to take the risks, and put in the effort, that Graeme has on trying out something new then we would all still be sailing Fireflies (perhaps that wouldn't be the end of the world, though I remember them being horribly uncomfortable - but it would certainly limit our choices a great deal).

can't we just put carbon tusks on the wooly mammoth and paint the sabretooth tiger's lips pink to hide the nastiness behind them?  Seems to work for most folks in dinghyland...

Daniel,
A lot of good points but my only comment is when publicly developing something like the v twin you can't help but get comments both positive and negative back.
Take the 100 development as another example of an open(ish) development program. It was the first program I had witnessed that had been so openly developed with the end users being able to offer input. This was done in a professional manner as expected from a commercial organisation.
However mr grumpy has wound up so many folks over the years that some of the negative feedback must be expected...
But I'm sure he's a big boy and can take it all in his stride. Stick and stones and all that!!!!
Let's just hope he's true to his word on all these sailing shoot outs he's promised everyone.

Folks,

I don't know how much Graeme has spent on the V Twin to date and it is none of my business. I do reckon, though, that it would be less than a new shiny, much the same as the last one verse chorus verse Merlin Rocket. Relative performance aside, I know which one Graeme is happier to own.
I am pretty sure that if he wanted to beat his clone around the course in a Musto Skiff, he could have done it far more cheaply by hiring Sten for a fortnight and heading down to Mar Menor for some intensive warm water 1 on 1 coaching, followed up by nightly tours of la Manga strip. That isn't the point though.
Graeme is one of those people who has to find out for himself.
90% of the time his ideas may be flawed, but 10% may be winners.
Without people like Graeme, we would all still be living in caves. Never mind that most of Graeme's sort historically have been eaten by the sabre tooth tigers or run through on the tusk of a wooly mammoth.
Apart from clinging to the tails of whoever dared to exit the cave, we are as different from Neanderthals as we are due in no small part to evolution - the genetic mutations that prove to increase our uitility, and thus attraction to a mate. Every now and then a big step happens - sometimes this proliferates, sometimes it doesn't. The same applies to design.

Whilst there is no doubt that Graeme is a raving narcissist, what is the point in slandering his project publically? Plenty of people on this forum love to see it progress - I would say to those haters out there that Graeme is scratching his itches publically and expensively (dodging the sabre tooths and mammoths, so to speak) so that you don't have to. Regardless of how your doubtless incredible engineering brains percieve how well Graeme has met his intent, you owe him a debt of gratitude for sharing candidly.

Remember blinky the 3 eyed fish from the Simpsons?!

We all have different personalities. John Mackinrow behaved badly on court to because that put him in a frame of mind that made him a winner. Nigel Mansell succeeded through misery and Damon Hill smiled his way to victory. Mr Fuller spent a small fortune producing a controversial design and to maintain his enthusiasim he courts controversy, it spurs him on. Please do not stop providing him with that which he needs, without it that strange concoction that is the V twin would not exist. However this is only a game and personal nastyness should not be part of it.

The above is of course  patronising to the gentleman in question and I expect a vicious response.
