Any chance some of you can post photos of how you mount your GoPro cameras please?

just use the sticky mount on the front of your boat and click in the gopro

But tie a rope to it just in case

i am going to get the suction cup as then i can let other people use it in the class

here are plenty of mounting options... surely something can be customised to fit a sitty-down boat.

That's all brilliant, thanks, I have decided upon and ordered the HD Hero Motorsport with the handlebar mount extra. Now onto the next question ,what editing software? (Preferably free)!

I use the tripod mount and then have several different way to attach it to the boat
First one is  attached about 1m off the stern using a windsurf batten (carbon pole) to give it stiffeness I made a set of acrylic spreaders(5mm) so that it did not interfere with the image. As you can see there is quite a lot of bend in the carbon pole(ref picture on the day we broke our mast!) the pole is just drilled into a T-section of wood that hangs on the stern (tied down with 1.5mm dyneema). For the mast mount I again use the camera mount bracket but this time it is mounted on a cut away windsurf cam inducer(sorry no pic) this is then tied through the mast at the holes for the hounds of the shrouds. Recommend always tying on the camera in addition.

Can't remember what sort of threaded bolts you use to attach the tripod mount but they are not Metric! 1/4 UF or something like that .

I use Serif Movie plus X5 video editing software (not free but you can bargain then down to about £50) Can do everything that adobe premier (blue screening etc) as is way more advanced than windows moviemaker and imovie.

You get a better view off the bow if you put a small bowsprit on ( this was done with an old camera (not wide angle) using a 1m old tiller extension bent at the end with the camera held on with good old electrical tape!

movie editors....

Mac - iMovie
Linux - kdenlive
Windows - movie maker is very basic and if you want any more control you'll need to buy something like premier elements or Sony vegas. I've not found a decent free editor on windows and I've searched a lot so if anyone knows of one please let me know, and I don't consider movie maker that good, I don't like the storyboard method. you can download trials of premier I think
Everything I say is my opinion, honest

Editing software

I am using Adobe Creative Suite 3 Production Premium which is awesome- it's fairly tricky t use at first but very powerful. I was given a licence by my college so might you be able to do the same seb? (If not it is v expensive so I wouldn't worry!)

If not, I have a copy of Adobe Premier Elements 7 (inc guide book) that I'm no longer using going for not much money at all if you want it. PM me if you do. I will de-activate it and uninstall and give you the licence if you want.
