I'd like to know the cost of the curved boards when they break?
The Carbon 20 is certainly a beast. but hasn't taken off over here and I understand that the boat out of Thorpe Bay broke boards readily and cost thousands to replace. I love innovation in cat sailing and would love to sail the boat, but am not sure that Nacras delivery is yet reliable enough, or if I could afford it :( Do you think ISAF will pick a 'drawing board' boat given the disaster they had with the elliot?

Hi John, over 70 F20 Carbon's sold around the World (3 in the UK) so far with a further 5 sold this week by Nacra Europe! There were a few breakages on the very first boards (early 2010), but there was an immediate redesign of the boards and there have been no further breakages since then despite being sailed in some very testing conditions around the world. All broken boards were replaced under warranty with NO cost to the customer despite what you may have been told (best not to listen to hearsay, but chat to Nacra direct!!). Since the redesigned boards were supplied to the Thorpe Bay boat(which is now in new hands at Bala) there has not been a single problem with the boat, so much so that the owner states that it is the best finished and designed boat he has ever owned. Both of the other UK F20 Carbons were supplied new with the updated boards and have not had a single problem. Nacra's ability to deliver the product should not be doubted. Since moving production to the Far East the quality of the boats is as good if not better than any manufacturer out there. With over 80 dealerships around the world Nacra's products have truly global distribution and dealer support. Are you really doubting Nacra's ability to design, in collaboration with Morrelli and Melvin (accepted worldwide multihull design leaders), and build cutting edge, world class, high performance catamarans?

There is a problem with Andy Gray's F20 at Stone...... It's pink!!! ;-) But I understand that was the choice of the owner, not Nacra.

A good boat builder supplies whatever colour of boat you want, even if it is a terrible, terrible choice.

still it'll be worthless on the used market in a few years just because of its colour :)
Anyone thinking of buying a Nacra 20 Carbon should seriously consider Pink, Lime, Woodgrain etc as finishes since I cant' ever afford a new one!

John
Experience shows us that ISAF will do what the hell they want even if it is to the detriment of the sport. As to the cost the problem for you is that will it go in your trailer

I liked the F16, but love the 17. Think it'll be better suited to our weight to be honest. If all else fails, I still really fancy an Infusion or the F20C. Big fan of Nacra, keep up the good work!

There are now two Carbon F20's at Bala and there have been no problems with them other than being in creditably fast in the right hands. I
still struggle with the NACRA F18 and now the 17 as this will surely dilute an
already small catamaran market which will make the choice even worse if the 17
does get selected. For crews coming into catamarans with an eye on Rio do they
have a F18 for competitive sailing in UK and Europe and a 17 for Olympic trials??
Surely this defeats the object of keeping the costs down. |

I bet a friend £10 that we would not see the Hobie 16 at Rio in 2016. How safe is my money?
