To be fair Jimbo the results say it all, we were beaten fair and square, the chap in the 100 was a local apparently had owned his 100 for two years, he knew his way round a very fluky Pitsford well and it showed, Charlie beat him on the water in the second race but not by enough. I would say the better/ more experienced sailor did best. Dangerous to draw any conclusions from today though

We were leaving by the time the protest from the Assy race 2 start was concluded- just noticed that us and our fellow B14 were scored DNf in the 2nd race. Which is most odd. As we definitely sailed the course and received a hoot as we finished.

Al, sorry i didn't know it was you in the other B14, if i did i would of introduced myself. What was the protest about? i heard a load of shouting and screaming, but was busy trying to break free from some single-handed Vago's (boy are those things quick, 1 up) I have sent an e-mail to the results chap at Northampton about the Vareo, that's wound me up! Result is kind of irrelevant more the principle!

wasn't quite sure- but basically, a 400 tried to squeeze in at the pin end boat, did badly, tacked and caused a domino of tacks that ended in bad times when someone held on starboard.

Jimbo - I think the d-one was slightly quicker than the 100, but not a lot in it. First time we have really sailed them in those conditions (me and Russ) so we are still learning - if I won now easily, where would the fun be? A really great sail though, which would have been a bit boring in my opinion in some more conventional ina rig classes. Plus great race management by Northampton.
I think at the end of the day, the extra 18 months of racing the 100 sailer had under his belt shone through, plus if your going to start like I did in the second race where I was wedged on the port end committee boat, leading to a mass pile up and a few protests... ![]() ![]() |

Chris Larr was the leading 100- I believe he is a local, has owned the boat from new and was a top Vareo sailor before that being national Champ in 2008 if I remember correctly, so he has a good pedigree!

quite frankly they had no chance of keeping up with Chris in those conditions; he's light (for a 10.2), local and damned fast. you really have to hope the wind goes beyond 15kts to catch him.
what's surprising looking at the asymmetric results is that the 400s did really well. in those conditions i would have expected the 100 (and probably the D-one) to have no trouble beating them. does the SJ handicap cut the gap between them?

Not at the Steve Nick, we were back on 971 (we were dropped to 950 at the bloody mary) The 400's were in their prime conditions able to role tack on every shift and pull the pole over to run very low.

can you not roll tack a D-One (serious question?) with that much freeboard, I'd have thought roll tacking was one of its advantages over skiffier asymmetrics?
