I got a quote from C-Tech 3 months ago, the price for MAST/BOOM is about $2000, way higher than £900. They offer you group discount? exchange rate? ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Quantity Item Discounted Unit Price($) Extended Price($) 1.00 ea 37MASTSM01 3.7 mast, SM, 50mm ID @ 6.15m 1,550.00 1,550.00 1.00 ea 37BOOM02 3.7 Boom, 60 x 80mm x 2.4mm wall @ 2.4m 528.00 528.00 |

IMO if/when I do it I am planning on building the foils and hull myself, and depending on other bits and pieces I would probably build the mast myself but not sure about the boom.
If we get enough people we may be able to persuade C-tech to do a group discount- buy in bulk idea. |

Yes - can be built in single garage.
Estimated materials costs: £600 hull Costs of spars, foils, sails from C-Tec NZ: £550 sail £900 mast / boom £600 foils The mast, boom and foils can be home made. My mast is a simple part mast glued together. Tapered top section, straight bottom section. Top section could be a windsurf mast. Fittings / rope: depends what you want to do. Let's guess at £400. That makes £3050. But could be shaved down if you make your own foils and rig to: £1550 est |

Back to the Far 3.7, how much could a complete boat be made for? I guess the hull is the cheap part? Also could they be built in a single garage? Whilst i am (i should imagine) miles to heavy for one, i sounds like a great home build project.

There are cheaper spots at AP like down the sides of the stage. The problem may not lie with the organisers it may lie with the site owners as they are the ones charging for the space. It is not in their interests to have a shared cost stand.

IMO this is something that should either be accomodated in the entrance lobby, or by allowing boats to be exhibited outside, like in the CP days. The best dinghy show is the one that allows all classes to be there by providing options. For those that can afford to be inside, where punters are sure to linger longer, then great. For those that can't, theres an option - yes with downsides (if it's raining for example) but also with the upside of a reduced cost and thus the chance to turn up when otherwise it wouldn't be possible. There's also the walkway where the historical 'procession' was shown last year. Why not allocate that space to new classes? |

Graeme thats a great idea, makes complete sense. I guess the only problem then comes with how the area is split. I wonder if this is something that the organisers would welcome? Surely if it meant more exhibitors then great.

Those small boat exhibitors without classes should consider clubbing together, all the independents, like the Alto, the Farr 3.7, the Icon/Blaze, The V3000 etc, they should form a marketing 'association' of independent dinghy builders, I've said it before, then just buy one big stand and share the cost rather than fork out for lots of individual stands, duplicating things like light and power, and facilities...

Dinghy show March 3rd and 4th.
Costing the exhibitors a small fortune ... so do come and make it worth the trouble and expense!
