Need southern wage's to sail there ;) It's why me and Greg didn't make it to the open event, B&B prices as much as a holiday to Spain

Chris: he knows what he's doing with rig sizes but he needs encouragement to take the brave next step and join a club with salty water and waves. What's not to like? Great view from a great bar, cracking food (pre & post sailing) and no trees...

I use the 8.4 on the circuit - tried the 10.2 at QM last year - even in 12 knots it was a big mistake for my 80kg and 5'10"
At Frensham, I always use the 10.2 - I actually like the cut of the bigger sail more - and the extra mast height puts the rig out of the wind shadow of the weeds (that people keep wrongly calling trees) This does mean I have to do a fair bit or rig swapping. Has anyone else had to shave the end-plug down? Mine got so so tight I struggled to hammer it in and out!

Chris - thats interesting - kind of what we are seeing - that the cross-over is higher than expected - closer to 90kgs maybe....now the controversial bit - you are in the unique position of having raced both at handicap level....do you really think you are going better on the 8.4 - or even as well? What handicaps do you use down there?

Without wishing to blow my own vuvuzela (!) I thought you might be interested to know that I had a really successful result in the Teign Corinthian Christmas Regatta.
http://www.tcyc.org.uk/2012/01/03/christmas-regatta-results/ The interesting and pleasing thing (for me anyway) was that this was a mixed handicap fleet of 30 boats with very good sailors in a range of conditions but crucially on an RTC course - definitely not windward/leeward ! What a fantastic winter for sailing - so warm ! The Starcross Steamer on Sunday was the first time I had worm a wetsuit other than my hikers - and that was a 3mm short arm summer suit ! Can't wait for the series to begin !! Cheers Chris |

Hi Clive / Andrew,
It's not your destiny ! - having used the 10.2 for the first 18 months, with some success but definitely also some poor showings (last years Nationals best forgotten !) I am now firmly on the 8.4, going very nicely and really enjoying it. At 87kg I am in the cross-over zone but experience has taught me that over a range of conditions the 8.4 is the better sail for me and is generally quicker. We now have a fleet of 7 boats locally (+1 coming shortly) and we are all on 8.4's and having fantastic racing. Chris |

I think there are 2 8.4s. there are however some lighter 10.2 sailors who might get a shock...
Clive your always welcome...
Andrew - all pennants are outside and summer series we will have a choice as 2 committee boats are rostered - sometimes it can be better inside.

Gurnard Sailing Club now up to 12. Eleven are 8.4. Make a date for our circuit open in September. Without doubt one of the best overseas locations!! We hope to have special ferry deals available.

There was certainly talk of there being one 8.4 in amongst that lot but I'm sure Nick/Paul can confirm. Anyway, stop dithering Clive, it's your destiny!!
Meanwhile, Nick: in your capacity as part of the race committee can you confirm if the medium asymmetric fleet will be out at sea in the summer? Last year people were worried that the 200s might get scared (despite being amongst the best around) but I can't imagine the 100 fleet will be thrilled with harbour racing... |
